1914 had only ONE tropical storm.

http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1914/

No hurricanes.

Do you realize that in 2004 Charley didn't form until August 9th?!(actually it was named on August 10th).

A more modern example, 1983 had 3 hurricanes but only 4 named storms.

We can only hope and wish that it will be the quietest season on record giving those affected from the past several years more time to recover.

one reason why I think that this season is going to be quiet is that there is too much ull's and wind shear so be thankfull

The most active part of the season is still ahead of us. I don't expect this "dead quiet" to last, although it hasn't really been all that quiet anyway.

I wouldn't breath the sigh of relieve just yet. I have a bad felling about Debby. Plus this is normal. Wait until late August early September before saying stuff like this.

The same could be said for a "quiet" 1992, and we all know what happened there...

I hate to burst many bubbles, and I would love no landfalling storms ANYWHERE this year (or any year), but I would rather not lull many people into easing their concern over a "slow" start to a season. Actually, when you think about it and look at it statistically, we are slightly above normal in activity for this season thus far.

We aren't close to the peak yet... after August 20th is really when it starts.

Uh, no, it's not. You might want to check those sources. ;)

We're two storms ahead of 2004. That was a busy year, as I recall.

okay there is too much wind shear out in the atlantic basin that rip hurricanes apart so why do you all think that this is going to be a above normal season???

because the true heart of the season does not start until around the 15th of august... we are not even there yet.... thats when it seems all conditions come together... we have told you over and over and over and over that it looks to be above average now for about 4 days straight... just relax
