Alicia 83 developed from a similar scenario. Sometime a tropical system can develop from a cluster of thunderstorms that move offshore but its very rare. It did catch my eye this morning as you can see outflow over the storms.

I have one word. Oh My! When did this thing come up. I don't think it was there last night. My husband is out deep sea fishing. They left yesterday morning and are supposed to be coming back this afternoon. Ummm! They have to go through that mess. I am going down to the Gulf to clean a condo and was going to meet them as the boat came in around 3pm. Now I wonder how they are going to get in. Which way is this thing moving?
