Forecaster Stewart

#1 Postby vacanechaser » Tue Aug 01, 2006 9:01 pm

Wow!! Just funny how folks were dogging Stewart for keeping this thing alive a few days ago... Several pro mets saying they did not see what he was talking about, and that Franklin had a better hand on it and he would be correct in his negativity of this wave.... I think with Stewarts track record and background, it is apparent he is no fly by night NHC wanta be..

I certainly dont like to say anything or try to make it look like i am throwing something into the faces of people here... But I thought that persistence is something that everyone preaches about a system and the thunderstorm activity and as long as it continues, we could have a storm... Well the same can be said about a wave that just wont die or fade away.... These are different times we live in apparently and the same type system years ago might be no more...Atlantic is in an up-swing in development and has been for a few years... Maybe some folks arogance came back to bite them...

Are you talking about Stacey Stewart? I thought he retired from the NHC last year.

Couldn't agree with you more.

Stewart is the best at the NHC, he proved us all wrong because we all were not expecting this thing to strengthen much.

thats my point.... i think they, the nhc, have more data and access to things most of us do not.... if they think it has a shot, then i think my money rides with them... i know most of thenm there and they all put in a lot of time and do a great job... but some stand out above the rest...

I know this would become something all day yesterday. It may not of been closed off totally but I think it was darn close for 2 or 3 days.

Yep...he nailed it...as usual. I don't remember seeing the NHC initiate advisories on a system not up close to land that they ultimately didn't think would intensify to TS strength.

Guessing Mr Franklin was told he had to initiate the advisory...but looks like he didn't agree.

Mr Stewart is absolutely the best forecaster to initiatie advisories...he does a detailed look for all of the clues and breaks down every little thing...Dr Beven does as well...and well just about all of the NHC senior forecasters do.

I have been saying this all along, that Franklin and stewart where at odds on this system. You could tell it in their TWO"S. Last night I got the feeling it about killed Franklin to write that first advisory. I must admit that advisory was pretty sorry. JMHO

I think the best thing about Stewart is that he seems old school. When men were men, and mets were mets. He is not afraid to go out on a limb and tell it like it is. He also seems to use a "gut" feeling from many years of experience. A breath of fresh air in an era of "political correctness" in the extreme. Plus, he has a great last name :D

Franklin busted initially but seems to have gotten the end game right.

Yeah...except he missed the whole named storm thing.

Please forgive the sports analogy...it's kind of like taking a rushed shot from half court with 10 seconds left in the shot clock...if it goes in...it's 3 points. But the coach will still yank you out of the game...even though the result worked out...bad shots go in the goal sometimes.

i dont get the double standard though. stewart says "development possible" with every disturbance and gets kudos when one does. franklin seems just as good but is on the conservative side instead. franklin got it right when he said the pattern was complex and that the upper lows could kill it.
