Curious about Gulf Sea Surface Temperatures...

#1 Postby Steve » Wed Aug 02, 2006 1:10 pm

I know there's a giant thread on the SST's and anomalies, but some time back, someone had posted a graphic that showed the March 2006 eddy spinning off of the north of the Loop Current and heading toward the Texas Coast (where it was supposed to be by July) with a new eddy forming south of the Louisiana Coast (the spot where Katrina got awfully strong). Whoever originally posted that photo (I can't find it), can you post it again with a possible update? I have the links to the sea surface temperatures (high res and super high res) but didn't have the one with the differential of the Loop Current and its eddy-spawn.

Btw, in case that hot eddy is sitting off the central or south TX Coast and with the potential of a near-perpendicular landfall (often the case with Texas landfalls), there is the potential for a double-whammy of intensification (hot water, tradjectory) rather than a weakening at landfall IF Chris does have his sights set on the Texas Coastline.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can find those charts.

Btw, best I can tell, the hottest water in the Basin (including the Gulf) right now is running up the West Coast of Florida to east of the Mouth of the Mississippi off the LA/MS Coasts.

I had that one (it's the one I call the High Res link, while the link I posted I call the Super High Res link). The one gboudx posted was what I was looking for. But based on the super high res, either the water off the TX coast was cooler to start with or the eddy didn't appear to retain its prior resemblance of an eddy. So I was hoping someone would have an update to the current/eddy graphic. Maybe they haven't depicted it yet?
