Bay of Bengal: Deep Depression BOB 0603

No. BOB/3/2006/ 01 Dated 2nd August, 2006

Subject: Depression over Bay of Bengal

A depression has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and lay centred at 0830 IST of today, the 2nd August 2006 near Lat. 20.50 N and Long. 87.50 E, about 100 km east-southeast of Chandbali. The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and cross north Orissa coast between Paradip and Balasore by tonight / early morning of tomorrow.

Under its influence, wide spread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall (more than 25 cm) at one or two places are likely over Orissa during next 48 hours.

Squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph are also likely along and off Orissa coast during next 24 hours.

The Sea condition will be rough to very rough along and off Orissa coast. The Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.

The depression over northwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and lay centred at 1430 hours IST of today, the 2nd August, 2006 near Lat. 20.00 N and Long. 87.00 E, about 50 km east-southeast of Paradip. The system is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction and cross north Orissa coast , close to Paradip by tonight.

Under its influence, wide spread rainfall with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall (more than 25 cm) at one or two places are likely over Orissa during next 48 hours.

Squally winds with speed reaching 55-65 kmph are also likely along and off Orissa coast during next 24 hours.

The Sea condition will be very rough to high along and off Orissa coast. The Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea.

So What is 55-65kmph in Mph or Kts
