The fact that Chris is forecasted to enter the gulf is frightening...because frankly it doesn't need to be THAT strong to explode (Rita and Kat were both TS's).

Not to mention, some of the SSTs in the central Gulf are boiling. Combine that with a forecasted high pressure system above this cyclone...

I'm sure if it was just a TS you would still have to. They usually only cancel schools in the event of a hurricane landfall.

Exactly...
If Chris reaches the Gulf and has the ideal conditions there, its probably going to become a major hurricane.

No they cancel school for tropical storms too,at least in my area they do.

Right now we're talking about a 40 mph TS. Is this forecast to strengthen any between now and the weekend?

Borderline TS/H ... With all the heat content in GOM, I'd be very worried about that.

NWS has it up to 50 knots (from 35 knots now) by Sunday.

Just becuase Katrina and Rita exploded into major hurricanes in the Gulf,doesn't mean every other storm is going to do the same.And there is also a chance that this may NOT go into the Gulf.Let's just wait and see what happens over the next day or so before we start this whole Gulf coast doomsday thing.

based on what I'm seeing right now I'll predict a 70mph Storm by Sunday "IF" it doesn't interact with Hispanolia
