Sense they bring a huge wall of water in so quickly!
It's not just the "wall" of water they bring; but it's the potentially MILES of water that could be behind pushing it forward...(and water ain't light--just try carrying a full bucket of it--now multiply that a few billion/trillion times) just enormous amount of energy. Remember these things travel at speeds sometimes well over 300 mph (I've heard over 500 in some cases) out in the deep sea. They do slow down as the water shallows out; but there's an enormous amount of energy behind them.
Still, while no "tsunami" the devastation along areas of the MS Gulf Coast were pretty much just as devastated along certain strips of land. In that regard it was "their tsunami"... thankfully the death toll wasn't what it might have been.
