Wow! How often do you get that hot over there, or is this a record?

It's rather rare, however in the east of the country it's quite normal to have temps of over 30°C in summer. Today's max: 35,8°C in Neusiedl am See. :bday: The max here in Mauterndorf (in the middle of the alps) was 30,1°C, which is really hot.

Hardly anyone has AC in homes (Unless you mean alternating current which is what AC usually stands for here ;)). Even leaving all windows open at night it only drops to 26 or 27C after peaking inside at around 32C today. The average max temperature is now 27.8C here which is rather high for here. Where are you travelling Paul?

In The Netherlands this month is going to be the warmest month since the start of temperature measurements in 1706. The warmest month until now was July 1994 with a mean daily temperature of 21.4°C. The current month so far has a mean daily temperature of 22.4°C. The mean high temperature so far is 28.7°C (6.6°C above the mean high 1971-2000).

The Central England Temperature [CET] figure for July now stands at 20.0C, 0.5C higher than any month back to when records began in 1659. Only three months have a CET figure of 19.0C or over.

Aug 1995 - 19.2C, July 1983 - 19.5C, 1st - 26th July 2006 - 20.0C

There are areas below average Matt. http://www.cpc.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/regional_monitoring/index.shtml

Wow, I remember 1995 being a real scorcher of a summer so to have beaten that says a lot. The fact that my work is air conditioned suddenly makes overtime very attractive. I hear its going to warm up again though after this weekend?

Right the provisional figures are in. July's CET figure is around 19.85C (+3.3C of the average value), and is 0.3C above any month on record back to 1659. It may also be the first month with more than 300 hours sun. http://www.climate-uk.com/

The GFS suggests it will warm up again next weekend.
