This has NOT been a slow season. The two storms so far are average even for the hopped-up rate of the past eleven years. In addition, we've had 4 additional Atlantic tropical systems which didn't quite end up with names but which merited, and got, a lot of tracking and attention here. It's been a rather lively season so far.

Can I share an exact link? No...news people delete their stories after a certain amount of time and it would be almost impossible to pull a link up...however, I was just reading the National Geographic August article, and if you were an average person and read this: "Yet 2005 was just a continuation of the upward trend that began in 1995." What would that mean to you? If you did not know as much about hurricanes as we do now, what exactly would that mean to you? To me it would mean that each year is getting worse, in terms of damage and the number of storms, so there you could say 2006 would be as bad as 2005 if not worse. I am not bashing NG, they had an awesome article on hurricanes and what the NHC does ^^ and I loved their article, just wish that one part had been worded a tad different. But remember that what I post, and how I read things, is in my humble opinion...not your own...so I could read something and see it as one thing, while someone else could read it and see it as something else...NYCHurr06 wrote:brunota2003 wrote:Techinically bashing would fall under flaming, which according to subsection 2.0 Conduct Rules set by Aquawind, is not allowed and the post would be deleted and a warning sent out to the person who wrote the post via a mod...but that is my take on the rule...as for what you said, I would agree, sure I want something to track, but I do not want hurricanes hitting peoples...and alot of people are trying to use last year as the analog season to what a normal year should be...I honestly think it is the fault of some scientists saying that last year was caused by Global Warming and that it would be the norm when really it isn't the norm...but that is how I see it, and it always seems to be the scientists that say last year is what hurricane seasons will be similar to for the next 10 years are the ones who get news articles written on them...but the ones like the NHC, who say it was a freak year, and it will not be that bad, do not get as much publicity for some odd reason...
I haven't seen one article saying that this year is going to be like last year...care to share a link?

I didn't get a chance to read that article, but I will try and pick up a copy...if I had read that, I would have read it the same way. I would love to see which scientist said that and call him out on it.

Okay it is not just last year sorry. There is somewhere every year that has been destroyed by a hurricane. It take years to recover from it. I know I lost my home and I live 40 miles in land. There has been Andrew hazel donna ect... One is to many. But I have learned a lot on here just from reading. But I have not read Oh I wish it would hit here any where on here. Now I have read of this maybe a fla storm or it may go here or there but no one I have read have wished it on them.
Sorry for your friend been there I know how it feels. But they have their life.
Like just a hour ago we got a rain storm. dumped 2 ins in 45 mins. Lighting hit one of our trees.

I understand your viewpoint but honestly I don't think anyone here is hoping for a storm. Yes, I think people here love to track them but I also remember when Katrina, Rita, Wilma hit people here were very concern about the members in those areas. Actually I saw a lot of concern, giving, and caring from the members here. A lot of people on this board were affected by the storms last year.

Why not sit back and enjoy it. Last year there were BILLIONS of dollars in property damage...THOUSANDS of Fatalities.. And dont forget about these people. I assure you they arent wondering when we will have the next storm![]()
Dont get me wrong..I like to keep track of an "active" storm...but I have reviewed a lot of these topics..and it seems some of us really want another disaster.
Reason I am posting this is because I have an old high school friend that lost everything with katrina in Miss. and I think we just need to think about what we wish for...
Thats it....so have fun bashing me now!
I don't think anyone is "wishing" for damaging storms. The members here enjoy watching a storm develop, trying to figure out what the path will be but they definately don't "wish" for storms that will harm anyone. Last year was an exciting season, we saw a season we will probably never see again in our lifetime, from deadly to greek.
I don't understand why this topic was started. I believe there are several already started quite similar to this one. If there are topics that bother you pm a mod/admin and discuss it with them and let them take the corrective action if it needs taken.
HD...you seem to be taking offense to everything that is being said...so why did you start this topic?

You can't be serious! Go read through the 98L thread...people were hoping for that thing to form even though the LLC was on land!

Yeah we are all concerned for the people. But we do love to track in forecast them. It brings us all together into this group we love. I do this almost every day...

One thing to remember is that just because someone hopes for something doesn't mean it is going to happen. Let them hope all they want...it will not change the end result.NYCHurr06 wrote:beachbum_al wrote:I understand your viewpoint but honestly I don't think anyone here is hoping for a storm. Oh no, EWG, I totally understand that. I was just taking issue with his statement that no one hopes for a storm.

There is absolutely no difference...except for the general public, who become much more concerned when they hear "TS Chris to bring 5-8 inches of rain," as opposed to, "a tropical disturbance should bring 5-8 inches of rain." The public has gotten used to the fact that when they hear a name, they should become concerned.
