Question on the EPAC and the Atlantic

Is it true when the EPAC is having a lot of storms the Atlantic is quite?They are up to E (I think?) and we are just 2 TS. I know it is still early. It has been on my mind and I was afraid to ask.

I think it might have something to do with the MJO being in a wet phase in the East Pacific,but just entering the Atlantic so that's why I think the East Pacific is jumping right now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

both were active

East Pacific: 20/16/6

Atlantic: 14/8/1

a total of

34/24/7

It is normal for the EPAC to get an early start, the Atlantic tends to catch up by the end of the season - we are right on track at this point for a normal season.

Yes that is correct. Peak EPac season is mid-July to late September, while peak Atlantic season is early August to mid-October.

Also, in most years there IS an inverse relationship in activity between the two basins (1990 was an exception).
