Too Quiet For Me ... Starting to Spook Me Some

#1 Postby Bluefrog » Sat Jul 15, 2006 8:21 pm

I'm directly on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and people are starting to get a little nervous (at least the ones I've talked to) about how quiet it is in the tropics for mid July. On top of it being so quiet it's hot as hell and the GOM waters are very warm.

Relax.. Dont worry your self. First of all its out of your control. What ever happens happens. To continue to be stressed out is not going to help you. We certainly understand what went on last year, and it was a tragic situation. This season is quiet and will most likely remain that way. Sure they will be canes, but I would not worry about it...

Exactly. Unless you have an 'S' on your chest, don't stress!

Personally, I hope it's the calm before the calm of an abnormally quiet season!

I think this is the norm right now. Last year was abnormal. As for the hot weather it is hot here too along the Alabama Coast. A strange kind of hot. The type of hot that when you step outside it feels like you have open your oven from cooking a hot meal at the temp 450 degrees. It is too hot here!

What Tiff means is the weather around here is just like it was last year. Ask me if I will pray for rain this year. NO!

Dude, it's only July 15. The season lasts for 6 months....and storms can form in the postseason as we well know. So everyone just chill out. Geez

Dude is a dudette. Please do not be rude to anyone that voices concerns.

This was not a necessary response either.

2004 and 2005 In my opinion were very active seasons, and 2005 being the most storms and hurricanes i can recall in my 19 years in Florida.

I am speaking strictly from my experience from the Florida west coast.

I don't remember much times before those years that I watched the weather with so much concern.

I for one am very happy this year so far that things are quiet as my nerves cant seem to take another season as last year.

the only thing i do not like is the warm weather. It was like this back in 1999 and we got hit by 2 storms in 2 weeks.I am certainly not saying that this year is going to be just like it but it is a carbon copy so far.Forecast for upcoming week is for highs from 94-98 all week long!

This also means we are dry right now which is good because IF we do get storm then the local rivers could probably handle it well.

I've been tracking storms since 69, and up until a couple of years ago I really didn't pay much attention to the tropics until the second week in August... thus far this year, its pretty much normal... unfortunately I do believe we will see things pick up quite a bit in August and Sept... but if it ends up as one of the quietest season on record, that would be just fine with me....

I forgot how dry it was last year but I do not remember it being this stiffly hot feeling. The heat is unbearable. IT is 10am in Fairhope right now and I have 88 degrees registering on my weather channel desktop. I don't know if it is right but it is hot.
