Phenomena You Do Not Want To Experience Again
I hear a lot of talk about people being frightened of hurricanes after they've gone through a bad one posting here. As such I ask; what type of weather phenomena do you NOT WANT TO GO THROUGH AGAIN. For me the list is:
1. Hurricanes, especially intense ones (cat 3, or higher)
2. Hurricane force winds
3. Tornadoes
4. Ice storms
5. Intense lighting storms/hail storms
I can easily live without having to go through any of the above in my area, or in my travels, anytime soon.

The things you just listed are some of the things I want to go through over and over again! Who doesn't want Intense Lightning and hail? I would love those storms to come to me. As long as the hail doesn't start doing major damage, I am alright. Tornadoes....well I don't want one near my house I would love to see one in person though. Ice storms I don't want though, that would knock out the power for too long. Hurricane, well lets just say I want to go through one that won't kill me.
I don't want to go through this ever again:
1. The winter overcast skys that last weeks on end (Dull!)
2. Major Flooding
3. Thunderstorms that don't take a direct hit on me
4. Cold, rainy Summer (eww)

I do not want to go through the following:
1. Hurricane- Winds/Surge-- My house is 10 feet about sea level...
a Hurricane of any size = damage or devastation to my home
1. Tsunami- Deadly with almost no warning
2. Tornado- Frightening- occurs very quickly with little or no warning-
very frightening
3. Hail- Does a lot of damage
4. Lightning- On many occasions I have had close cars of being
struck even while inside my house when the lightning hits the trees
next door.
5. Sandstorm- Hard to breathe
6. Heat Wave- 115+ F is unbearable...Even 95 F+ is very hard to bear.

Ya, Unfortunately they will be over there a while, we STILL have fema towns over here in Pensacola
Ivanhater you are sooooo correct... for some it will be a very long time.... for me, at least 4-6 more months until my house is probably finished or its in a configuration that I can live in it...... if I'm that lucky.... for others it might be much much longer....
for the record I am building the first "new" home on the beach in Biloxi... more than 10 months after Katrina, the first new home is under construction.... I know of one other new home slated for the beach that has been approved by the planning commission, but they have not started yet... but willl soon...
I wonder if that will make my new home a "historical" home... being the first home rebuilt on the beach..... especially since all the historical homes in my neighborhood have been destroyed.... hmmmmm

I hate hurricanes that make landfall at night. That's the scariest thing for me is going though one of those in the middle of the night. It's dark and you can't see a thing, you hear the wind howling outside, trees snapping and stuff hitting your house and your NOAA wx radio is going off every 5 minutes with tornado warnings. That's exactly what I went through with Ivan, probably the scariest night of my life.

this one is easy. several years back we were outside under my parents carport during a avergae afternoon storm and it was a pretty good one when all of a sudden we all started to feel our hair stand up and we heard a charge building for just a second then lighting hit a few feet away. The 3-4 seconds before then hit we could tell something was off just to hear and feel the charge building is something i never want to see again!
