What excites you about hurricanes?

#1 Postby sunnyday » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:12 pm

As I read some of the posts on Storm2k, I notice that some posters seem so excited even at the prospect of an ULL. So, I thought I would ask what part of the whole hurricane process is most exciting for you?

They're like people....they are born, they grow, they need to eat, they need to breath, they need a livable environment, they like to travel, and they die.

Skysummit,
Your answer is quite impressive. I never thought of them as living beings in the same way people are.

That was a excellent reason. That's one of my reasons as well.

I like them because they are never the same as each other. Each one looks different and acts different. They are born differently and I love to see them grow in both size and strength. Another reason is because it's part of weather, my main hobby for life. Another thing with the tropics is you never know what exactly will happen.

When I was a kid, it was the euphoria of missing school. I guess that was excitement. Now that I'm an adult, I wouldn't call it excitement anymore. It's more worrying for my family that lives in the New Orleans area.

To watch them organize and become monsters but look beautiful on SAT.

I would say the power of mother nature. It just amazes me how powerful these canes can get.

Sunnyday,

Now it's only fair that you explain yourself too. What about hurricanes turns you on?

Watching it go from a TS to a hurrican. If one comes my way I have to said I love to watch the clouds as they move in. They swirl around and around then the wind gets stronger and stronger. To try and stand in one place safe is very cool. I know I am a over size kid at 50 LOL :cheesy:

Because they do not happen every year in most areas like my own, and because they are so unpredictable (which is why I also like Nor'Easters around these parts in Winter time); in terms of formation, intensity, interaction with other weather systems, and often track. They demonstrate to us that in spite of our level of technological advancement, nature still holds many mysteries yet to be learned, and is beyond our ability to control.

I love hurricanes for all those reasons as you all put.. i have tracking and enjoying TC for 13 years now from just being a surfer and wondering when we were going to get waves from them .. to tracking them learning all about weather .. i mean everything everyone has put so far does not even begin to explain the feeling i get when there is something forming or even just a little swirl or even a cluster of storms ..!!! or even seeing a computer model hinting at something.. But above all else I LOVE THE CHASE MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!!! I have been chasing them since Floyd and have done about 7 hurricanes now.. ( been through 9 ) i have experinced mother nature at her finest and worst and i love every minute of it. But chasing is everything.. it puts all the Satellite loops and models all of that into perspective... its great... would not trade it for the world....

It excites me to watch them start from nothing, basically, to become a huge force of nature that man has no control over. Since Katrina, it also excites me beyond measure to see one that could possibly threaten the Northern Gulf Coast decide to turn toward Florida or Texas or Cuba or Mexico or anywhere but here. (no offense to those who reside in those areas, but I ain't wantin' no more of 'em at my house)

The responses relating to Mother Nature hit it on the nose. I love the fascination of the pure force that nature can deal out. To see a normal neighborhood one day and rubble the next is a very humbling thing. After Ivan ate my home, I had never really felt that awe-inspiring humilty before. The sheer power of Mother Nature puts me right where I belong.............a peon in HER world. I still remember those butter commercials...............

Hurricanes to me are the most amazing displays of Mother Nature, returning to the atmosphere the energy being absorbed by the sea in the heat of summer. It's all about balance. I'll always remember the smell of the ocean as Ivan's eye approached.

Watching them get their "act together" and see how far they get. Also, they are awesomely and dreadfully beautiful at the same time. Isabel with the 5 pentagons in her eyewall blew me away.

Excite me? Well, I think trepidation is the right word. I wait, watch and hope that it won't destroy my home or hurt me and my family. My interest doesn't have a lot to do with excitement. It is a matter of being better informed and better prepared.

NOW.....POST KATRINA .... not a damn thing excites me about them ... in fact just thinking about another storm makes me want to throw up.
