Miami radar down

#1 Postby x-y-no » Wed Jul 12, 2006 3:17 pm

Here we go again ... how many times did this happen last year?

Just noticed my GRW88Level3 hadn't updated for an hour and a half, and sure enough, Miami Radar is "down for maintenance."

Seems to me like there's no other site that has even one tenth the problems ...

Doesn't appear to be a problem with the actual radar... From the Miami NWSFO:

that would be incorrect... lol.. wakefield radar here in virginia is horrible... it seems that everytime i get ready to chase thunderstorms here it goes down.. . one of the mets there that is a friend of mine said that the NWS uses used parts to fix the problems... not new parts... so, when it comes time to turn things up due to storms, they add to much pressure to the radar breaking different parts, or the ones that are replaced with used, repaired parts... thats great huh!!?? gov't at work

I must be lucky...our radar here in Morehead is hardly ever down, and when it is, its usually down for a day or so...

Probably due to budget/funding reasons.

Are you still using GRW88Level3?

Try upgrading to GRLevel3 via this page:

http://www.grlevelx.com/grlevel3

After you purchase the product, you recieve access to the Owners Forum where you can download version 1.1 RC5. It has many more features than 1.0 did. I am a registered paid owner and it is an amazing program with amazing support.

You can try using the Melbourne or Key West 248nm radar, but it won't be as accurate as the Miami. I guess it's better than having nothing at all though.

I use the Key West radar all the time since I live basically under the Miami radar (okay actually a mile or two away). The ground intereference makes it hard to pinpoint what is happening near me so I use Key West for a clearer picture. The only drawback is a lack of Bahamas coverage; however, it has excellent coverage for storms going through the straits.

Not much coming through the straits this morning. The most likely area of the wave to develop (looking at morning visibles) is still close to the Cuban coastline.

Perhaps as this area moves away from land into the gulf we will see some slow development. NHC still saying development unlikely at 8AM though.
