There is one with a thing called SAME(Specific area message encoder, or something like that). Anyways, you only pick the counties you want your Wx Radio to go off on with SAME. Also, get one that will run on a battery, just in case power is lost. ;)

I have a Midland 74-105XL and I've been happy with it. I just wish I could set it not to go off for the weekly test, but it's no big deal. If you don't mind that, then I'd say this is a good one. It never fails to go off and it is plenty loud enough. It does have a backup battery too and an AM/FM radio as well.

That SAME one David mentioned sounds nice too and I wonder if mine has that feature. I can't recall mine going off unless I'm in the warned area. (except for Special Marine Warnings). I'll have to check that out.

Anyway, I bought mine new from Ebay a few years ago and it still works great. I think it's still sold in stores too but I got a better deal on Ebay.

Kelly, that one sounds nice. I don't think you can avoid the weekly tests, if there is, I need to update my WxRadios!! Also with an AM/FM radio? That's sounds good. Yep, it's always loud enough. It use to scare me "back in the old days". Hehe.

I have a Share Com, and it does thankfully have an option to block the weekly tests. It's been great. And it has an AC adapter, so I can take it in the car.

I have a few NOAA Weather Radios. I actually don't use the ones that only carry the National Weather Service broadcasts, one or two of them have a radio built in.

I use my NOAA Weather Radio on my 20 Channel Uniden Bearcat Scanner. When I first moved to Florida, I was able to tune into all three offices (Melbourne, Ruskin-Tampa Bay Area and Jacksonville)... but awhile ago.. the Ruskin and Jacksonville aren't coming much at all... although I do have the unit in the bottom portion of my (new) nightstand because my clock radio and radio are on the top portion.

I ended up getting a Radioshack Portable.Just works with batteries. 7 channel with SAME. Looks sort of like a little radio. I hope it's a good one.

Mine is a Relistic tone aleart by raidio shack. It goes off for storms that are way out of my county's weather tower somtimes 50 or 75 miles away. Is it true the new ones are more localized tone aleart like for only the county you are in?

I don't set my Weather Alert too often, I am generally here listening to NOAA Weather Radio when I am online/around the house, anyway.

I have used the Alert Feature a few times and will again soon enough. :)

I've got a Midland 74-109. I'm never home from work when the
weekly test goes off, so, I don't hear anything but the real alerts,
and, they sound off when needed!

Well, I have a 2-way radio/Weather Radio for a good price off Motorola.Com. It has a Weather Radio built into it and if there is a warning issued, it will come on even if you are not on the NOAA Radio at the time... got it for like $130 or so. ;)
