Will Alberto affect my cruise??

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will Alberto affect my cruise??

#1 Postby herecomesthesun » Mon Jun 12, 2006 9:37 pm

A few weeks back I asked what you all thought and most of you said I shouldn't worry.

Now that this storm is going on...what do you all think?

As a reminder, I am cruising the week of June 18 through the Western Caribbean. We go from Port Canaveral Florida, to Haiti, to Jamaica, to Cozumel Mexico, to Grand Cayman, and back to Florida.

Alberto no. If any storm does, it would be a new storm (Beryl?).

Alberto will be long gone by the time your cruise comes around. So, unless another storm pops up by then, you should be fine. Have fun!

Just remember your Lysol...that Norwalk (sp?) virus is a greater threat than any weather is going to be...

Hi Here,

I read your post before, but didn't comment because I (nor anyone else) can guarantee you anything with the crazy storm seasons lately.

However, I can tell you (living six miles from Port Canaveral) that if you can GET here (Orlando International Airport is open) then you should have no problems.

You should monitor the weather (here on S2K), your cruiseline's website, and if a storm is possibly impacting, call the cruiseline directly for verification that they are sailing.

Port Canaveral has put a very strict policy in effect this year mandating that all boats/ships be out of port when big storms threaten. The big cruiseships have never needed a nudge to leave, but they may leave earlier than usual because of the mandate.

Bottom line, the ships will leave Port for safety before the airport shuts down so if you can get to OIA, and know your ship is waiting for you, you should be OK.

But again, the biggest factor is storms in the area and, unfortunately, no one can guarantee that none will be around next week.

Welcome to living on the edge and happy cruising!

a large cruise ship will not care about the presence of a medium strength tropical storm.

there should be a tropical wave (or two) in that area during your cruise, but whether or not they develop is yet to be seen.

They might. All it takes is one rouge wave (which can be generated by tropical cyclones) and they can have major issues.
