Possible tornado outbreak in GA and SC

#1 Postby pup55 » Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:10 pm

Got a question for some of the experts:

Currently, winds in Macon GA are out of the SE (seeing the effects of Alberto)

Surface winds at the Atlanta airport are 0 (light and variable)

Winds in Greenville SC are from the west at 10 MPH. There is a frontal boundary at about the Atlanta/Augusta line. Above the front, winds are from the west.

So the question is, will there be an unusual number of tornadoes when Alberto treks across FL with all of that moisture, and an east wind, when it hits this frontal boundary? Also, when Alberto treks across FL will it be able to tap into moisture from the Atlantic and send copious moisture up into GA and SC?

The forecast for N Georgia calls for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon, but clear the next 3 days.

A big unknown is the track. If Alberto remains farther west after landfall, the chances of a major outbreak is much, much greater than if it hugs the coastline or moves offshore (since the outbreak potential is all over the Atlantic).
