The Big Question

Alberto, our first storm, formed one day after Arlene from last year. Also, the Atlantic, Carribean, and Gulf waters are all very warm. Also, the forecast for the season is a little bigger than last years at this time. the Big question: Will this season be just as bad and active overall as last years?????

I think we'll have plenty more records broken and one of the biggest seasons on record (if not first or second)... but I doubt it will be quite as bad/active as last year's.

Another comparable storm - Allison in 1995. That season turned out bad as well.

Of course not. No season will ever be like 2005 for decades.

Some people here predicted that there would be almost as many - or even more - storms in 2006 than 2005. The highest member forecast was 30 named storms, 18 hurricanes and 11 major hurricanes.

I think this year will be quieter but still active since the water temps are cooler than last years and the first named storm formed a little later than Arlene of last year, not only that 2005 had the perfect conditions while this year seems to have more dry air and shear

I'm just totally speculating here, but I'd bet that we can expect a season as active as 2004.. probably not as active as 2005, but still one for the history books.

After 2004 I didn't expect a season like that for many years, but 2005 proved me 110% WRONG!
