#1 Postby CrazyC83 » Sun Jun 11, 2006 5:39 pm

What are the chances of a significant tornado outbreak from Alberto?

Maybe not an outbreak, but Bonnie in 2004 proved that even weak storms can generate deadly tornadoes and Alberto surely can.

How did you get that image to come up? I was trying to put two of SPC storm report maps up from May on the USA weather forum, but ended up linking them instead.

Yah, I think so...

I don't think we should expect a significant outbreak from Alberto.
The SPC doesn't seem to think we should. Of course, duing Rita they never went above slight risk, even though dozens of tornadoes, albeit weak, swept across MS, AR, and AL.

Bart Hagemeyer of the NWS Melbourne office has done a lot of research on landfalling tropical cyclones and their potential to develop rainband tornados. I would highly recommend the following link to read some of his work or go to Melbourne website and look under local research.

It's way to early for the SPC to post any kind of mesoanalysis much less a watch for Alberto. Because of the helicites and the high level shear environment Alberto has a very good chance of spinning some funnels as it passes over the pennisula.

My home in SW Louisiana was destroyed by tornadoes during Rita as were many others so you may want to include LA in that list
