Hello, I'm a new user here and I have been reading these forums for a few weeks before I joined. This is indeed the best place on the internet to talk about Tropical Cyclones not only in the atlantic ocean, but worldwide. I have not found a better forum with this much chat about hurricanes and such.

I went on the chat room for Storm2K as the name "Hurr_Ivan22" and went there some days with little activeness. I know quite a bit about weather and tropical cyclones but not all there is to know, I'm still learning to this day! I love tornados more then any other weather event just to make that clear, but hurricanes comes in 2nd place. After the year 2003, I started liking hurricanes much more then ever before, because of hurricane Isabel most likely. Now i'm obsessed with hurricanes and tropical cyclones to this day (because of how active it is). I taped hours and hours of hurricane katrina footage and news casts. I save every picture of a hurricane on my computer that I like. I get a excited so much when weird things happen in the tropics(Wilma, Katrina, Zeta, ect). That is how much I like watching these storms.

How I found this forum is weird. Some people on other message boards are bad-mouthing this forum and that's how I found out about it! However, I found that this is the best and the rest are just don't cut it for me. I think those people who hate this forum are just different. However, they think this forum is very stupid because of the large amounts of posts on systems that haven't even formed yet!! (Invest 90L)

Here is some information about me and my thoughts on certain things:

I beileve Hurricane Katrina at 2nd landfall was indeed a category 4 hurricane. The NHC and some other people in weather beileve that it was a category 3 at landfall. I just can't beileve this, windspeed measurements is the only thing that supports this claim. The scale we use needs to be improved. Also, Katrina had a low pressure at landfall that would make it seem like a category 5 (Katrina was not a CAT5 though at landfall). This is just my opinion though, I do see the reasons given for why it was a CAT3 at landfall though.

I believe Hurricane Wilma was a category 5 hurricane for longer then the NHC says. When they said Wilma weakened to a category 4 hurricane when the pressure was at 892 mb, that made me confused.

I heard on the news from somewhere that one group in Eroupe forcasted the 2005 atlantic hurricane season to be the worst ever or the most active ever. This was in June or May 2005. I wondered if they would be right....they were indeed. I don't remember much else about this group so I can't say who it was.

Cyclone Monica (April 2006) looks like the 2nd best looking Tropical Cyclone I have ever seen. Hurricane Katrina is #1 in my books.

I do not live in a hurricane prone area. I live in Ontario Canada which doesn't get Tropical Cyclones very often at all. The worst TC to hit my area was Hurricane Hazel no doubt. It wasn't a hurricane or anything at that time but another low merged (or helped) with it to make it hurricane strength I think.

I have never felt the power of a hurricane in my life, I want to one day and I know it would be scary and bad, I still want to!!

My 2006 Atlantic Hurricane Season outlook numbers are: 26/16/6 (Very high numbers). I think we will see 3-5 category 5 hurricanes this season. Rapid strengthing will cause more major storms to become monsters. I know these numbers are crazy stupid but I can't ignore what I think will happen. How do we know that 2006 will be less active then 2005?

I think there will be NO El Nino this year in the Atlantic. I'm hearing more people say this because of patterns and other things but I highly doubt it's going to happen this year at least. Next year maybe....

The 10 page rule on Storm2K is one thing I found silly. I never understood the purpose of this until I read it today in a topic. I still think this will cause problems and at the very least make it 25 pages instead. I would love for it to be limitless though like on other forums. I love seeing topics get huge so I'm not happy to see this rule on the forums but it's not my choice in the matter.

There will be more Cape Verde Hurricanes this year IMO. Homegrown systems will still happen though.

I think one day there will be a monster hurricane in the atlantic ocean like Typhoon Tip in 1979. I read somewhere in a topic a few weeks ago with some members saying the atlantic could not handle a storm like that. I strongly disagree with that, one day something like Tip will form. The waters and conditions would have to be perfect and I mean perfect. A storm like this would crash all weather forums on the Internet due to everyone wanting to talk about it, lol.

I think I covered what I wanted to say first off. I look forward to posting on this forum and joining in on the "fun". I'm so ready for a another hurricane season and can't wait to see what we get this year. I'm sure many people don't want the hurricane season to do anything at all because of the damage and deaths that comes, but I can't understand what you people who have been through a hurricane must feel. I'm sure it's hell. Comments are welcome but don't be to hard on some of the things i've said here, it's not "set in stone" type of thoughts.

Go to your profile... the specs are listed there... I believe it can't be any larger than 15K though... anyway you'll find it all there when you get to your avatar.

Welcome. The wost thing about being in a hurricane is the loss of life, property, and creature comforts of air conditioning and food that does not taste like charcoal. The flies and gnats are a nusiance, and the stench of sewers that have not been flushed are not great either. Considering the ATMS don't work and the grocery stores are closed, Its not too bad. The winds and the sounds of the storm can be cool, if it is not the sound of your roof blowing off. The best way to view a hurricane is on a Saturday night,on the weather channel, :ggreen: with a beer in your hand after your girl friend or boyfriend has cancelled your date because they found out after your last date that they had mono. :cheesy:
