I thought it was pretty well done, what with showing snippets of the unaired show, then clips of the reality...
Bad case of deja vu for a lot of us tho'...

I finally saw it last night (I had Tivo'd it). Overall, I thought it was very well-done. I did get a chuckle though at times from Jim Cantore. It seems like he gets more animated over time to the point of being comical. And the line "And the Mississippi River - coiling through the city like a snake"....my wife said "sounds like that movie preview guy".

$10 Billion for Cat. 3 vs. $100 Billion for Cat. 5. Even still, considering the increasing wetland erosion and subsidence, it's still a lost cause in the long run.
About the only solution is to re-route the Mississippi to its natural course and flow, but then large parts of the city and region will have to be sacraficed. If we don't do it now, mother nature will eventually.

It's not even to that point yet; mandatory evacs at anything above Cat 1. I don't think many will need to be told twice.

I think they meant for now. The long term plans are for a Cat.5 levee system but unforturnately that won't be for another 5-10 years from now what I read.

I think that is a matter of opinion on whether or not it's a lost cause.

Yes but it probably won't happen.

I guess I am just wondering..while they rebuild the old system why not beef up the Cat protection factor now?? While the equipment is already there.Stormcenter wrote:Rainband wrote:I thought it was good. I don't understand the rebuilding of the levee system. They are only rebuilding to Cat 3 protection???

The reason behind that, Congress has to give approval for anything higher than cat3 protection. Under the authority of the Flood Control Act of 1965, Congress approved levee's to be built to a certain height, what we now call cat3 level. Any higher must have the approval of Congress.
