August 15th to October 15th.
It's funny what you hear in you particular area thinking that it is something exclusive of your area. One thing the local (Hampton Roads and eastern North Carolina area's) news stations always emphasize is that how the hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov 30 but the real time of concern fo us is between Aug 15th to Oct 15, that is when almost all strikes occur. To my surprise when I was in Fla recently watching a local forceast the were saying the same thing. Then it ocured to me I guess this really applies to the entire eastern US and gulf cost. I wonder how many other areas emphasize this?

Yes, Outerbanker, that is when the majority do strike, but no one should let their guard down at any time during the season. We've been hit by hurricanes early in the season before - Example: Audrey in June 1957 - I was young, but Audrey killed two of my family members and destroyed our house. I do remember riding it out in the attic as the house was breaking apart and then eventually on the roof. Hurricanes are to be respected and as the saying goes around here - "never turn your back to the water."
