yes, there is a big problme with that.
it's pathetic that you just don't get it![/quote]

Msbee, dear friend...breathe in, breathe out. This is a young child who likes creating storms as well as thinking he wants to be in one. Both are sad, ignorant desires. 97% of this board understands where you, and so many of us, are coming from in enjoying the power of Nature and not wanting that power anywhere near us, along with aching for those who have been affected so horrifically by that very Power.
Arrogant ignorance is just sad...there is a cure, combining knowledge and experience, but unfortunately it takes time. Maybe one day Scorpion will have both. Until then, he's best left to stew in his own sorry little world of *toss the darts at any target* that he lives in.

yea, MJ, I know. you are right. maybe the board should have people take a maturity test before anyone is allowed to post.
that would weed a few of them out

For those who post these comments - please refrain from them as this is a sensitive issue.

For those who see these comments - please refrain from attacking them as this is free country.

"Please" as in "no rules need to be enforced about this, but is a suggestion".

I think that is a good enough compromise.

Hey, where is that guy from a couple years ago who forecast/wishcast every blasted storm to go to North Carolina? Now that was funny! Is he still around? Did he ever get banned for that?

This comment does not surprise me coming from you.You are just a troll and I will be surprised if you aren't banned by the end of the season.

That's fine. You obviously don't know the true power of a hurricane therefore I'm not going to argue with you.You will learn one day.

He lives in Jupiter, Fl though. He should know the power of a hurricane; especially after Wilma last year.

No Wilma was relatively weak compared to hurricanes like Andrew, the great 1926 Miami Hurricane, the Okeechobie hurricane of 1947, and other hurricanes of the 1920s-1940s that pounded South Florida. So unfortunately many in South Florida still can't say they have been through a major hurricane (Wilma had only CAT 2-3 gusts but was a borderline CAT 1-2 in Palm Beach County)

I think we were all 17 once :) Hell I still like them to hit even though I know what they do. Let's face it, only a few people would care if they were all out to sea. The aftermath is awful but that's the risk you take by living near the coast. There has to be a happy medium somewhere between the crazy hurricane chasers and the people that allegedly want them all to stay away. Who even remembers 2000 and 2001 even though they had approaching 20 hurricanes!?!?!?

Wanna ask Mississippians, Texans, Floridians, and The Big Easy folks if they would care if all hurricanes went out to sea benny? Betcha you would be surprised as to how few of us there are. There is no happy medium.

That's exactly my point. No one would care. Yet there are plenty of people who like the science of hurricanes. It is a tough balance for sure. As a former Big Easy resident and now current resident of Florida, you live with the danger... hope for the best but prepare for the worst.
I am pretty sure one day where I live will be totally wiped out...as should all residents that are vulnerable to a significant storm surge.

Actually, I see a LOT of "problem" with that. You might like the "thrill of the chase," most chaser come in for the excitement, film their shoot, then leave the debris and destruction behind them. Not knocking those who do a public service by providing data; but those who would share a view like this are incapable of empathy.
You don't stay for all the fun AFTER the filming.
You don't have to go home to a slab, or a relic of what you once had.
You don't have to live amongst the rubble for months on end.
You don't have to see firsthand and DEAL with all the death and destruction--some of it affecting YOUR OWN FAMILY and/or friends.
You simply go back home and cheerlead for the next exciting "chase".

Yes, there IS a problem with that--it's extremely self-centered and insensitive to the pain of other's tragedies. I know of sick SICK people who truly watch these things like they would a football game and for the life of me I canNOT figure them out. Could you imagine a forum where people would exchange thoughts like "WOOHOO ANOTHER TSUNAMI!!!""
or wish for lots of really devastating earthquakes whose epicenters are right on the LAND where they can do the most visible damage!!!... and let's make 'em at least 8.0 or higher so we can really get some great pics... then run home and enjoy!

I dunno... just sounds kind'a sick to me! To each his/her own.

Point well taken about the "free country" so I guess we reserve the "freedom" to respond to such as you aptly put it, "sensitive" issues.

Point well taken, Benny; but there's a HUGE difference in respecting the "awe" of a hurricane, and acknowledging the reality of the situation-- and actually "enjoying" them making landfall when you KNOW it's going to KILL, and destroy! JMHO FWIW

Hmmm...I dont mind a weak Cat 1 coming through here...(Isabel and Ophelia) However...I hate anything higher that is hitting land, no problem with a Cat 5 over open ocean, as they are very pretty (example: Isabel as a Cat 5) I dont like the flooding/death/destruction/general mahem they bring...yuck...and the cleanup after even just only a strong TS is horrible...especially when its 100*F outside with a heat index around 140*F...triple yuck...

I have been through Irene,Frances,Jeanne, and Wilma and been without power for 3 weeks combined with those storms. Additionally I have almost been killed several times in those 4 way stops that stem from the no power. But I still think a hurricane hitting is worth it. I love the excitement and panic before the storm. I love the wind and rain from the storm; and being outside in it. Being outside in hurricane-force winds is one of the greatest experiences one can have. I was almost hit several times by flying debris. But it was worth it. I continue to want hurricanes to hit. My family and I keep our belongings safe and have a safe house that will weather almost any hurricane.

Kind of agree with that... hell... slept right through Cindy... but OH, the scenes on the streets after she passed!

Ahh, but has that "safe" house of yours ever had to face a 20-30 foot storm surge? Not all of us have the luxury of being high and dry when these killers hit. If you want them all to hit YOUR area... more power to you... if you want them anywhere else... well Southerngale has said it all!
