Puerto Rico's Hurricane Season

#1 Postby Janice » Wed May 31, 2006 2:16 pm

According to the governor, the 2006 hurricane season is being predicted as very active in which Puerto Rico could be slammed by an atmospheric phenomenon in the categories of 4 or 5.

The island has not received the battering of a hurricane of these categories since the 1930s.

I hope he is wrong.....

Yes,I heard the conference on the radio. It's very good to see the goverment involved from the start of the season in the preparation and orientation to the population.Hopefully we dont see any landfalls here and all go fishing away from not only Puerto Rico but away from our friends who live in the Virgin Islands,Leeward and Windward islands.

Having the results of Hugo still around...and seeing what happens when we get *just* a strong wave through the islands, fish sound real good.

(by the way, PR folk, I've heard from three boat people here already that the hot new hurricane hole is Salinas now...everyone who has gone to check it out loves the place and feels it will be fairly safe)

Maybe all of the above :) But...it is a town on the southern coast of PR...if you want to read more about it:

PR is a small island full of amazing places that put you in a very different world than the most often visited San Juan, towns that most visitors never discover. Salinas is one of those places.

PR seems to get spared a lot by hurricanes, many turn north, like Marylin and Luis.

Georges was the last major hit, and the first hurricane in years to make landfall in Fajardo and travel the 100 miles across and exit through Mayaguez. Man, I remember that hurricane. The whole island got the eyewall of the storm, no area was spared. What a nightmare...
