Check this out:

Looks like the FSU model page is down as well. This just happened in the last 15 or 20 minutes...

Strange ...

I can't see any good reason for this policy on FSU's part. Liability? Not by any reasonable standard, except just possibly in the case of the mm5fsu, which is their own product.

Liability is exactly why they've taken that down.

Yeah, but that is where I got the Phase Analysis of storms... not model runs. (warm core/cold core/etc)

Does anyone know another place to get this off hand?

I didn't notice it the first time I read it, but whoever typed that SOL page anticipated complaints...

But why would they face liability? Aside from the mm5fsu, they were just posting publicly available infomation in a convenient format.

So I could see removing their own model, but not the others, for liability reasons.

I searched "florida state fire" and "florida state meteorology" on Google News and didn't find anything... so I'm not sure what he's talking about.

From the famous site:

Notice: Florida State University has mandated effective 24 May 2006 that no real-time weather forecasts relating potentially
in any way to hurricanes are to be disseminated by faculty or students at FSU.
Consequently, this web page has been shut down UFN.

The authors of these web pages realize the value of these pages, do not agree with the decision, and are working hard to overturn it.

Yikes.

A contact email and phone number to register complaints will be posted here soon.

Models are not forecasts. They are models. You have to be able to read them just to find a tropical cyclone.

This type of short sightedness is not something I would expect to see from any US university, especially one that wishes to be regarded as one of the best places to attend for tropical meteorology.

It is sad to see. But FSU has a history of this. For example, why do they not share Superensemble guidance with the public?

This is a bit scarry, that a publicly funded university is choosing not to share information on a very important subject. They can spend our tax dollars and tuition dollars, but can't provide those same people with the information they want.

Unacceptable, and I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

Anyone think it would do any good to complain? If so, to whom do we address this issue?

As an update to the above, the 2nd paragraph has had "by friday" added to the end of the sentence.
