Arthur 1984 August 29th
Anita 1977 August 30th

it's actually quite common. Probably as common and an early June storm.

Ok I have gone back to 1970 and sorry but no, first storms in late August ARENT that common. meanwhile, I have found numerous first storms before June 15. dont jump to conclusions from finding two seasons with late first storms.

Actually I consider August 17th more mid August...plus Andrew occurred during a quieter hurricane cycle.

These also were during a quieter hurricane cycle. Are there any examples of a late August storm during a very active cycle like the one we are in now?

Huh? Is it because there will be heavy activity and excitement among many members?

Definitly, this board will be very active when a Cat-5 forms, which will mean loading problems for alot of people.

Even when a tropical storm forms this board will be crazy. Last year you could not read the posts fast enought before some of them were close to the bottom of the page already. If you missed an hour or 2 forget it there were 1,000 posts by then :) Busy busy season. And after last season people will be on the board even more.

I remember that. As crazy as things were last year I bet they will be twice as worse this year, even if the number of storms are only a few above normal (which I stronly doubt).

i will say when the first depression reaches winds of 40mph thats when alberto will form and i am pretty sure it will be over water!!!!!!

OK all jokes aside mid june in the gulf probably from a old frontal boundary thats left behind a blob of low pressure!

Between May 31 to June 30th in the Caribbean I think we'll see our 1st system.

Wow, the majority of us (including me) think the first storm will form in the Caribbean. It happened last year with the formation of Arlene lets se if it can happen again.
