My all-time favorite is "GFS has it in the Bahamas just off the SE FL coast in 120 hours"

If the GFS was correct about these things, we'd be hit 6 times a year.

My perennial favorite: "PRESSURE DROPPING AT BUOY (insert NDBC station number here) !!!"

99% of the time it's due to typical diurnal fluctuations.

"Conditions are deteriorating"
"They're starting contraflow too late"
"You know, one of these days, Anderson Cooper really is going to get himself killed out there"

Phrases you shouldn't hear in 2006, courtesy of the Unicorn Hunters of Lake Superior State University (they have a list of words and phrases they banish every year- http://www.lssu.edu/banished/current.php)

HUNKER DOWN – To brace oneself, in anticipation of media onslaught. Trotted out in reports about everything from politics to hurricanes. “I have a hankering to ban all of this hunkering.” – Kate Rabe Forgach, Fort Collins, Colo.

FEMA – Dedicated to the memory of a great federal agency consigned to the ash heap of parody. “If they don't do anything, we don't need their acronym.” – Josh Hamilton, Tucson, Ariz.

BREAKING NEWS – Once it stopped presses. Now it's a lower-intestinal condition brought about by eating dinner during newscasts. “Now they have to interrupt my supper to tell me that Katie Holmes is pregnant.” — Michael Raczko, Swanton, Ohio.

Before the news media can get to that though, comes the "keeping a wary eye on", followed by "taking aim on", "bracing for", "battening down", and finally, (while "all eyes are on") some serious "hunkering".

Walmart is wiped out, nothing to buy.

Should I leave?

We are all boarded up and we won't take em down untill season is over.

I can't take much more of this.

I feel sick!

Good God, I just walked away for coffee!

It's an upper leve low...no chance of development.

Convection will die down come night time.

Quickscat confirms rotation. I wouldn't doubt if it was already storm status (even though the NHC has yet to declare anything.)
