NOTE: BEGINNING AT 0000 UTC 01 JUNE 2006, THIS PRODUCT WILL BE REPLACED BY **HOURLY** STORM POSITION AND INTENSITY ESTIMATES GENERATED USING THE ADVANCED DVORAK TECHNIQUE (ADT) VERSION 7.1 DEVELOPED BY THE COOPERATIVE INSTITUTE FOR METEOROLOGICAL SATELLITE STUDIES (CIMSS). A TRAINED ANALYST WILL BE INVOLVED IN *MANUALLY* DETERMINING THE CENTER LOCATIONS AND CLOUD SCENE TYPES IN EACH HOURLY ADT ESTIMATE. THIS INFORMATION WILL ONLY BE DISSEMINATED VIA THE SATELLITE SERVICES WEBSITE AT HTTP://WWW.SSD.NOAA.GOV (ALL LOWER CASE). PLEASE CONTACT MICHAEL TURK AT MICHAEL.TURK@NOAA.GOV FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

Also, they now have a South Atlantic category. I never noticed that before.

EDIT: Hey, wait a sec. Does this mean that this page will just be giving us the same numbers on the CIMSS website, only this time with a small report from a forecaster? That has the potential to not be so cool. The CIMSS AODT numbers have been known to be way off.

It says a trained analyst will be involved in manually determining center position etc. so I don't think this is simply the old CIMSS product.

This definitely has the potential to be not so cool. At weak intensities the AODT technique is not the greatest. Now when the system gets an eye... it is pretty good but then you need it the least as anyone can find the center. A strange change in service for sure... hourly classifications but not real classifications, but a computer...
