I doubt that.

It depends on how deep those warm temps go.A hurricane would stir up much cooler SST's,therefore I doubt that much of the Gulf can support a major hurricane right now...maybe not even a weak hurricane IMO.Remember it's only early May,I don't think it's been enough time for waters to warm any deeper than on the surface.

I am going to have to disagree with the validity of that image. Sometimes the satellite will misread ocean temps due to clouds. Look at how much the GOM has warmed in a 3 day period.

That is a major difference compared to March when there was just a little yellow in the GOM. Hopefully no storms will enter the Gulf, Louisiana can't afford a major hurricane.

It seems it has cooled a little but the warming trend will continue no doubt.

I don't see where they have cooled at all. However, the NE GOM is pretty cool compared to the remainder.

It just seemed cooler today on the Weather Channel charts near the entrance of the Gulf. It was in the red last week this week it is in the orange. The BOC hasn't cooled it has only gotten warmer.

wont get much of anything truely tropical in the GOM with the heat content that low, even with high SST. Even the loop current is quite low compared to how it is later in the season

Does that mean the SST's are very low for this time of year in the GOM?

SST'S arent everything u always have look at the HEAT CONTENT and right now its not that great for tropical formation at all.
