I saw this loop current article on jeff masters blog i thought it was very interesting...

This tends to bode well for the Gulf states if the eddy does not break off until after the peak of hurricane season. It sounds like September would be an early break for the eddy.

Texas could be in for an active early season this year as that eddy should probably be off shore the TX coast by June or July.
