Converting Farenheit to Celsius and a LOT MORE...

#1 Postby GeneratorPower » Wed May 03, 2006 12:00 pm

There is a great, free program that I've had for some time that converts units for literally hundreds of different quantities.

I've made it available for download. It's 500k and worth every penny you pay for it :-)

If you don't want to download anything, google.com is capable of doing many conversions too. ;)

I just use a simple calculator, when I can't do it in my head. I convert all the time.

C = (5/9)*(F-32)

F = ((9/5)*C) + 32

K = C + 273.15

^There's my program. :P

Thanks doc, I was just about ready to post the formulas. I don't think we need a program to do it. It's simple math. But after going through the University of Florida Engineering program up to Calculus 3 and Numerical Analysis its not that bad. 8-)

What I like about the program is that it gives conversions for so much else that you might need. Like pressure conversions, length, time, volume, area, density, speed, torque, etc.

Sure, the temperature conversions are easy. But how about millibars to inches of mercury? Or what if you want to convert km/hr to meters/second or miles/hour. The point is that these are basically easy conversions but a tool makes them easier when you have to do them frequently.

Try it out and I think you'll find it handy.

millibars to inches of mercury

Thank God I will never ever ever have to do this. I hate in. Hg. <3 hPA/mb

km/hr to meters/second or miles/hour

I'll usually be using KT or m/s...

(km/hr)/1.6 = (mi/hr)

(km/hr)*(1000/3600) = (m/s)

and just to add.. (mi/hr) = 1.15*(KT)

Just a note, if you use a Mac, the included UnitConverter Dashboard widget does all kinds of conversions: speed, pressure, temperature, energy, etc. There are also a number of more specific hurricane-tracking/weather/satellite/radar widgets you can download from Apple's site.

Thanks for the info for Mac users. Cheers.
