This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

If we could just gather together a big bunch of blowhards (Tom Cruise, Rush Limbaugh, Howard Stern, anyone with a radio or local cable access show) and tie them together, they could probably talk even a Cat 5 into a whimpering little waterspout.

I agree! Bring them in.

On second thought, most likely not.

OH HA HA HA!

Well while your all laughing tropical systems around the world are causing havok! The only way we can end the suffering is to dump thousands of gallons of sea water into our oceans.

THIS ISN'T A JOKE. THIS IS ABOUT SALVATION OK.

Thousands of Gallons of Sea water? That will do nothing. I think a better choice is doing some under water nuclear test when the hurricane is moving over that area of water. Why I ask because it will upwell the water and the cooler water will come to the surface. But after the hurricane go by the water wll turn very hot.

OK... it's just that some of the ideas may not work and are not economically feasible or environmentally sound. Also, several (though not all) seem rather outlandish. I agree that saving lives is a top priority, and no one doubts that; the question is whether we will do it by improving our knowledge and forecasts or by controlling these (albeit useful to our climate) monsters. So far, no way to control tropical cyclones has been presented, in my opinion, that meets all of these requirements...

1. SAFE

2. ECONOMICALLY FEASIBLE

3. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

4. EFFICIENT IN MAINTENANCE AND ENERGY USE

5. WORKS EFFECTIVELY WITHOUT NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS

Until something that meets these and other requirements is met, these theories will continue to be dismissed and/or laughed at.

In my personal opinion, I actually don't think we should EVER control, or attempt to control, tropical cyclones. If it is successful, what about negative environmental and climatological side effects? I think we should improve our forecasts, accuracy, climatological predictions, preparations, and knowledge instead of investing in controlling these useful - though terribly destructive - natural systems. I know some may disagree, but it is my opinion and I am sticking to it.

If you want to pour water into the GOM make sure New Orleans is ready for another major flood. WeatherFreak have you forgotten that LA is still under sea level? Plus the water won't even stay in the GOM it is going to spread to the Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, Arctic, and Antarctic Ocean. You'll need more than a thousand gallons, but I'm not supporting this idea.

Your all blinded by your selfish desires to experience hurricanes! Admit to it!

We can end the suffering now if we follow this plan.

I believe that was the point :D

Then again maybe he was referring to that horrible dihydrogen oxide stuff that's everywhere these days.

Lol yes we're bored but hey i'm sure the not so dismal of you picked up my obvious joke in defending the plan overall. And the...well...not so perceptive of you actually believed it I suppose

And just IMAGINE if I were more subtle, I truly cringe to imagine that scenario

David,

The presentation was actually making sense, until he showed where he was going to deploy the pumps. He was grilled on that point
