Katrina vs 1995-2004
I added death and damage totals from all of the tropical systems to hit the U.S between 1995 and 2004 and compared it to Katrina.
All numbers are U.S only
Damage total
Katrina: $75 Billion
1995-2004: $73.3762 Billion
Costliest storm between 1995-2004 was Charley who racked in $15.7 Billion.
Deaths
Katrina: 1605
1995-2004: 281
(the deadliest U.S Hurricane between 1995-2004 was Floyd who killed 56 people)
Katrina did more damage then the 10 Hurricane seasons before it combined and Killed a ton more people in the U.S.

Yup, Katrina was one for the books, that's for sure. Sadly a LOT of it didn't have to happen; but that's another story. And as far as the damage--that figure is still arbitrary and could rise significantly higher. I doubt the death toll will rise a lot higher--probably level off under 1700, but I am convinced the storm probably killed over 2,000. There's still a lot of people missing whose bodies, I'm convinced will never be found.
Sad indeed, may it never happen again. (Okay, wishful thinking; but it's still worth wishing.)

Only thing, is according to Derek's post, expect Katrina to revised "up"... my guess is it'll be over $100 Billion. Hate to think what the death toll could be.

Yes it is--but like I said... well worth the wishing!

Well, Wilma definitely set a record in lowest pressure, and quite possibly windspeeds offshore, dunno... but in death-toll and damage, which is what the thread focuses on, bad as she was (and she was BAD) she's so far behind Katrina in those two factors she has to look forward to see back!
