I do think that this stretch of coast may be sparsely inhabited. I don't recall Myanmar having horrific death tolls from the tsunami in 2004, and this coast was most likely hit.

Though it does look like the storm, once it heads inland, will roll right over the capital city of Rangoon, or near it.

The Irrawaddy Delta has a population of over 6 million people.

It was hit by a Category 3 (described as a "small" storm) from due West in 1982, and about a dozen people died. Apparently there were a lot of evacuations.

Looks like a low-end Category Three/middle to high-end Category Two right now. Anyone agree?

Low-end Cat 2. No eye to speak of.

More like just a Cat-2, her eye doesn't look so well defined.

Actually, there is an eye, although it is cloudy and rather disorganized. That, along with the convection pattern, suggests a middle to high-end Category Two or very low-end Category Three (Saffir-Simpson Scale).

Guys, appearance can disguise the fury of a tropical system.

Oh, I know ANY category is dangerous. I am just saying my opinion, Sandy.

Reminds me of dennis a little. It has a super small eye with a larger outter eye developing. Heck it could still pack low in cat3 winds.

I'd say that would be from a very high-end Category Two to a middle Category Four in that image, Sandy (most likely a major hurricane still).

That's our friend Michelle from 2001 about to make landfall in Cuba with winds of 135 mph.

Yep. To me, it looks mostly like a major hurricane. Many major hurricanes (especially a Category Three to a middle Category Four) can look like that.

Yea, looks about 110-115 kts in that picture. Good structure, but looks to be weakening from its peak.
