What was the worst natural Disaster in the history of man

In the history of mankind?

Obviously the supereruption of Toba. Only a few thousand Homo Sapiens on the Earth left after that eruption. And, as Matt said, with the technology and stuff we have today and our nearly utter dependency on such cosmopolitan things, a global knockout of electricity, water, etc. of that level could seriously endanger our species, with probably rural, poor folk as the few lone survivors, ironically.

Oh, and if recently, then the Spanish Flu Pandamic, the Black Death, and the genocide of the Native Americans brought on by Smallpox are all up there IMO.

I will do my darnest to be one of the people left standing in the end. Who knows we could get hit with a Astroid or a super volcano. The human race is on one planet in it should not be....We need to spread or get kicked down again.

The worst natural disaster for "this" man and his family, and his families family continues to be Katrina. For other men and their families, it could be the same, or it could easily be any of the other disasters which have been posted thus far in this thread...

its Toba. In fact, I wonder if that was the cause of the biblical flood, as that is the ONLY time that science has shown a massive DNA backlog (probably a massive tsunami as it occurred on the same island as the 9.0 quake in late 2004)

My vote is for Isaac's Storm....the hurricane that hit Galveston in 1900. I know that the death toll is not very high compared to the Volcanoes or the Floods already mentioned here. But, this is a natural disaster that was worse than it should've been.

If the US weather service would've just listened to the Cuban weather service (and the Cubans were the experts on tropical weather at that time) the death toll would not have been as high. The damage would still be horrific but whole families might still be alive today.

This disaster had man made help, so its not completely natural, but it was still horrible.
