The causes of such earthquake swarms is not well known at this time except those associated with volcanic actvity but these seem tectonic in nature. Such swarms occur elsewhere including California. Important to note however, the it would take over 1 million 3.5's to equal the energy release of one 7.5.

It is really hard to feel 3.5 quakes. But 5.0 and higher can be felt without having to think about it.

I know it's wikipedia but Check this article on the Caribbean Plate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caribbean_Plate then go from there. The links are quite good.
