My built-in dishwasher is kaput! It's 16 years old, went thru a flood where i had 6" of water in my house and the seals are rotting out. I decided instead of having it fixed for the first time ever I would just go get a new one. I researched online and found a GE Profile. I printed out the specs and the prices from both Lowe's and Sears. There was one I really liked. I went to Lowe's to check it out but couldn't get anyone to wait on me and they didn't have one on display. So I trucked on over to Sears. The same model at Sears was $250 MORE. But Sears has a price match policy....they'll sell you the same model for the lower price plus 10% less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course I bought it from Sears. The salesman couldn't believe the difference. He said corporate was going to be calling him on this so I left him my computer printout. The only drawback is that i have to wait until the 14th to get it. Oh well...i'll survive!

Do we have to? I mean.. its not like its going to come back from diswasher heaven and moan "Give me your dishes to clean... I want your dishes!!!"
Hmmm... I hear my dishwasher turn on, and then it stops for a minute.. then goes back on. Could it be mourning the death of a fellow dishwasher?

Did your dishwasher tell bad jokes? Maybe that's why it died... you know, like this:
Why did the dishwasher cry?
Because it had soap in its tray!
Maybe your dishwasher wasn't up to speed with his cleaning? You must have been real harsh on it CM...
Thank you thank you...

Miss Mary
Can we blame this on Bon Jovi, somehow?
We're the original owners of our 17 year old home. We asked our builder to include all new appliances in our mortgage and he agreed! Our budget was so tight back then. Still is, this time for college tuition. BUT, I clearly remember my husband saying - it's great that we have all brand new appliances but they could go all go around the same time! I didn't worry for the first 5 to 8 years. Let's see.....we're on our second fridge (but the new one cost the same as in 1989, couldn't believe it!), second washer, second dishwasher, second hot water heater and this is the biggie, furnace. That went out 2 winters ago and we had a crack in the very bottom. CO was leaking out so it had to go. That's when I realized newer, high efficiency gas furnaces likes ours last about 15 years. That was a shock, the rest of appliances changes were major wear and tear.
You can buy new appliances at decent prices if you want basic ones (what we go for). My ex-SIL however wanted high end appliances, double oven stove, double wide fridge, front loading dryer/washer, digitally programmed. We joke that each of her appliances cost $1000 each. Our DW was under $200 a few years ago! My stove is so old but still working. Since I give it a good workout (we rarely carry or eat out), I'd love a new one. I priced what I have now, simple electric coil, a new one is only around $250.
