I sure hope this has not been posted before

When is the first recorded tropical storm or cane in the Caribbean or Atlantic Ocean that occurred in the hurricane seasons from the past?

It did not have to hit land, but it was definately a ts or cane.

If you're talking about OCCURRENCE, then you need look no farther back than last year to see that there was TC Zeta in the Atlantic basin, on January 1. It had formed a few days prior.

Alice #2 (54-55) also bridged two years.

If you're talking about the earliest in the year that a TC has FORMED, I think your winner is TS #1/1952 (formed Feb 2)

with honorable mention going to STS 1/1978 (formed Jan 18)

Those with more knowledge about the ongoing reanalysis of the ATLC basin (or anyone else, for that matter)...feel free to chime in with any additions/corrections, etc.

If you are talking about the first tropical cyclone ever recorded in history, then the answer is 1492. In September of 1492, Columbus experienced a hurricane in the Caribbean Sea. More info can be found here. http://ams.allenpress.com/pdfserv/10.11 ... -0477(1992)073%3C0173:MIOTFV%3E2.0.CO%3B2
