Found the story from my local news website...
National Hurricane Center Specialist Visits Gulf Coast
The National Hurricane Center is gearing up for the season by fine-tuning new forecasting products.
Hurricane Specialist Doctor Jack Beven showed off the center's new Wind Speed Probability Model today for area emergency managers.
The model will replace the official strike possibility map...and will show the chances of a storm affecting a specific area...when the event will begin and how long it will last. The new model extends out five days instead of the traditional three day outlook.
Beven says center meteorologists experimented with it last year and will fully implement it this season...the official forecast of which is still being mulled over very carefully.
Dr. Jack Beven/Hurricane Specialist; "The official seasonal forecast will be out in about two months, third week of May, sometime around May 22nd during Hurricane Awareness Week. Right now looking at the, we don't see any big inhibiting factors for this years' hurricane season so would not be at all surprised at all if the numbers call for above average."
An average season consists of ten tropical storms, six of which become hurricanes, three turn into major hurricanes
so we will not see the the map with the black line anymore?
