MUST SEE! LOOP CURRENT AND ITS AFFECT ON KATRINA!

#1 Postby CHRISTY » Sat Mar 25, 2006 1:44 pm

i know there are many threads on this but iam beginning to worry alot about what might happen in the gulf of mexico if any storm gets in there.iam posting here a few examples on what hurricane katrina looked like when she was going threw the loop current, which i might make out this years loop current almost doubles in size and that is what's getting me worried?what is gonna look like in late august or september nobody knows, but i will tell everyone this it would not surprise me to see 3 or 4 major hurricanes in the gulf this season.

here are the animations!

High sea surface heights are directly correlated to the heat content of the water column, especially in the surface layers (0 - 200 m). This is this heat content and not only the sea surface temperature, that supplies energy useful to the hurricane intensification. This is the case here: the hurricane takes heat above the Yucatan Loop Current and above the anticyclonic eddy which just has split off it. During its track above these waters, between 27 August and 28 August, Katrina has increased from level 4 to level 5.

we can observe the surface cooling correlated to the hurricanes track!

here's another prime example! with hurricane wilma

Derek Ortt said that deep red pocket was worth 810 mb .Had Katrina crossed it she would of probably been even stronger than TIP was

This is what im so afraid of.Before last year, there was Opal, which went from a cat 1 to a 4 in less than 14 hrs. This was probably due to the loop current .In 1960 there was Carla and Hattie. In 1961,Donna and Ethel. All became cat 5s over the loop.Allen and Camille, loop monsters.I think we are seeing a trend that will continue until SSTs come down.

Any storm beating Tip in the Atlantic would likely take place in the open Caribbean Sea, where such water temperatures are found over continuous areas, not just a small current.

Yeah...I really don't care what Derek said in that thread...Katrina would not have beaten Tip. It may have gone to about Rita's strength, but that is about it. Sorry if that disappoints you.

Just because a TS has MPI that is out of this world doesnt mean it can reach it. Some TS's can get close though....
