But St. Pete has not seen any major hurricanes in a *very* long time.

The worse hurricane conditions I've had were about 60mph sustained/80-90mph gusts in Hugo. Thankfully I've never experienced a full fledged major hurricane.

Unfortunately many people in the Tampa/St.Pete area don't know what a true major hurricane is like, Tampa/St. Pete has only seen some minor tropical storms through the years. Frances/Jeanne just had tropical storm winds by the time they got there...(of course some higher gusts)...

No major hurricanes since the 20s...

Seven in the last two years alone. But then again....I go to where they are. So my results are somewhat skewed.

I've been through 2 category 3's the past two years,Ivan and Dennis.Though I did not experience the strongest winds of both those storms,I did see the devastation up close.

Since becoming a member of this forum, I am now completely confused on what category storm I have personally gone through.

So, I'll just give you their names and let the categories fall where they may... Sorry, though, I can't vote in the poll 'cause, like I said, I have no idea what I went through... :double:

Betsy
Camille
Frederick
Elena
Georges
Katrina

And a WHOLE BUNCH of tropical storms and close calls (we even lost power for two days here in Biloxi with Ivan)

Andrew Frances Jeanne and Wilma which was the closet to Cat 3 but for this poll Wilma don't count.

Betsy but missed the eye. Saw roofs being blown off in the Gentily Shopping Center as my parents decided to evacuate in the middle of the hurricane. By the time we got to the French Quarter the wind was so strong that my Dad had to carry me across Royal Street.......MGC

Went through hurricane conditions with Ivan although not the Cat 3 part. Took the eyewall of Dennis directly. Without a doubt had cat 3 gusts and most likely had a short time of low end cat 3 sustained winds.

I have been living in Miami for 6 years since I came from Cuba and so far so good when it comes to major hurricanes. My luck may change but I pray it won't for a very long time!

At my own areas of living I have seen ground zeros of Cat. 1-2 force storms, and I have traveled to areas impacted by Cat. 3 conditions shortly after the storms have hit them. Recently I visited Cozumel, Mexico which was my first real Cat. 4 ground zero. Though it was 5 months after the storm, the Wilma damage in Cozumel looked like it had happened yesterday. Very bad...every tree on the island is either damaged or snapped...roofs and walls still destroyed...the pier ripped away. Scary.

*The worst winds I have ever gone through were about 75-90mph sustained and 105-110mph gusts from Hurricane Charley...there were also a few reported tornadoes in my area where winds could have hit 120mph or so...but I am not sure whether or not one of those hit me (hard to tell since there was so much damage everywhere anyway).*
