Unfortunately many people in the Tampa/St.Pete area don't know what a true major hurricane is like, Tampa/St. Pete has only seen some minor tropical storms through the years. Frances/Jeanne just had tropical storm winds by the time they got there...(of course some higher gusts)...
No major hurricanes since the 20s...

Since becoming a member of this forum, I am now completely confused on what category storm I have personally gone through.
So, I'll just give you their names and let the categories fall where they may... Sorry, though, I can't vote in the poll 'cause, like I said, I have no idea what I went through...
Betsy
Camille
Frederick
Elena
Georges
Katrina
And a WHOLE BUNCH of tropical storms and close calls (we even lost power for two days here in Biloxi with Ivan)

At my own areas of living I have seen ground zeros of Cat. 1-2 force storms, and I have traveled to areas impacted by Cat. 3 conditions shortly after the storms have hit them. Recently I visited Cozumel, Mexico which was my first real Cat. 4 ground zero. Though it was 5 months after the storm, the Wilma damage in Cozumel looked like it had happened yesterday. Very bad...every tree on the island is either damaged or snapped...roofs and walls still destroyed...the pier ripped away. Scary.
*The worst winds I have ever gone through were about 75-90mph sustained and 105-110mph gusts from Hurricane Charley...there were also a few reported tornadoes in my area where winds could have hit 120mph or so...but I am not sure whether or not one of those hit me (hard to tell since there was so much damage everywhere anyway).*
