Cyclones in Australia and Hurricane season 2005

#1 Postby angelwing » Mon Mar 20, 2006 8:07 pm

I was wondering, is there an increase in the cyclones in Australia as there was an increase in the hurricanes in 2005?

Its not as active as last season. The south Pacific last year had 2 or 3 very powreful cyclones.

An "normal"year for Australia has around 12 cyclones ... so far this season there have been 8 ... this includes the 3 reporting areas of Eastern, Northern, and Western Australia

Last year had a parade of monster cyclones rampaging southeast through Samoa one after the other, but the only storm to affect Queensland was Ingrid.

We're about average for this time of the year in the South Pacific, but the upper-level winds are steering the cyclones towards Queensland this year....I hope the pattern changes soon.
