GFS Shows a Low Forming off FL

#1 Postby gatorcane » Tue Mar 14, 2006 11:33 pm

CHRISTY found it (so we will give her credit) but I will post so we can start discussing right away. The GFS is showing some kind of Low forming off FL in 138 Hrs. What is going on? A bad run? The AVN shows something similar.

HOLY! Could this be future Alberto? I know the conditions are bad but who knows we had Wilma strengthen under high shear so lets see.

CHRISTY, the water temps are actually warm enough where this Low is at it is in the Gulf Stream but I wonder if we have a bad run or something. What about the AVN run....?

It looks like the low forms just off the coast of Jacksonville then begins to move SE. Hmm...

Hi all this is my first time posting I have watched the board for a while just wanted to say you guys have a great site. The only thing I'm having trouble with is all of the abreviations I have figured out some of them GOM=Gulf of Mexico :D but I'm still puzzled on others for example GFS is there a page or a website dedicated to the termonolgy(sp)? I have been Interested in bad weather for a long time especially 'canes but also tornados and Lightning but not really on a technical scale basically just what is on the weather channel :) . I hope you guys won't be to harsh if I have a lot of questions, I usually catch on pretty quick.

Welcome Brandon! Stick around long enough and you probably won't watch TWC much anylonger...since you'll get all the late breaking news first right here before TV stations air it.

GFS = Global Forecast System (one of the many models used to forecast weather) (Also the main model that the National Hurricane Center uses for its forecast track)

Because it's 138hrs out. The phase diagrams only catch future cyclones out to 120hrs.

The low is barely there on the FSU site's maps. It's gone completely from the NCEP maps.

it may not have been tropical. There have been hints of a nor'easter for next week.
