Although I admit this topic probably has been made in quite a few variations I can't seem to locate a recent older one so i'll just leave it at this...

I was around here in Lousiana for the following storms...

Andrew - I experienced probably Strong TS maybe even Cat 1 action where I lived but I was far north at the time and didn't witness the action.

Danny -A minimal cane that dumped us some strong strongs and probably Minimal TS winds

Georges -I'm reluctant to even list Georges here but it gave the whole city a nice scare so it's at least worth a mention for the hype.

Hermine - Fun little TS, decent action.

Allison -I'm also Reluctant to even mention this one lol....I probably jsut gusted TS action...

Bertha -Boy a nice flooder with this storm, a fun little system though lol.

Isidore -Definitely one of the strongest Tropical Storms i've ever been through I suppose not counting the near hurricane action from Cindy. I couldn't BELIEVE this one didn't intensity. Kind of a bummer actually I was back at work in two days.

Bill -Blah Blah Blah Moderate TS hit.

Ivan - Another mention here for the MASSIVE scare.

Matthew - Blah blah blah Moderate TS.

Cindy - The strongest Tropical System action i'd experienced....before.....

Katrina -No explanation needed lol. I was there in the thick of it and I got the Cat 2/3 Winds so yeah I rode her out.

So all in all....a Tropical Storm History for me...

I can't remember all the storms from when I was a kid, but I know there were many. Probably most of the ones listed by Weatherfreak since our locations are similar. The ones that stand out with vengence are:

Juan - Minimal Cat 1 hurricane, but his crazy track which hugged the La. coastline for days put 4 feet of water in my home. Halloween was cancelled.

Andrew - Experienced 120mph winds. Lots of damage to our home, but no flooding.

Georges - Just a scare.

Allison - Not much wind, but did put 3 feet of water in my street (none in my home). A tornado also killed a relative.

Isidore - VERY strong tropical storm experience.....for a TS

Francis - In Florida. I don't remember much of him though.

Ivan - In Alabama for this one. Where I was, we had 60mph sustained with occasional gusts to 80mph....not too bad.

Cindy - HOLY CRAP! WHAT A TROPICAL STORM!!!

Katrina - No description needed...rode it out near Slidell, La.

Rita - Even though she hit SW La., a pretty nasty feeder band stayed over Houma for hours giving very strong TS winds. Thousands of homes were flooded in Terrebonne Parish due to her storm surge. Even knocked out power for almost a full day at my place.

Gabrielle 2001: Gusted to TS
Michelle: Gusted to TS
Charley: Gusted over 60. Nearly hit a tree on my way to the office at 2 A.M. the day of the infamous landfall at Punta Gorda that I did not see on the Ricnekbacker
Frances: Gusted to about 50 at my apt, about to 70 at RSMAS
Jeanne: Nearly the same as Frances
Dennis: Gusts up to 70, with many tornadoes
Katrina: First time in real hurricane conditions
Wilma: Thank God for wine after that one. I shudder to think of what will happen when Miami gets real major hurricane winds

I experienced Arlene last year while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico. I was on the outer edge of her, but still "inside" I guess. Got tons of rain and wind.

Fredrick '79 - no big deal.
Elena '85 - no big deal.
Georges '98 - no big deal.
Numerous TS, brushes, and outer bands '64 thru '05 - no big deal.

Okay. I will try to see what I can remember. Juan was the first one I can remember and that is barely. I was 9 years old. All I remember is all the persistant rain. Terrebonne Parish got severly flooded in places, but my street never floods.

Andrew- I was 16 when he came in and was a junior in high school. It was my first real hurricane experience ever. The eyewall came ashore just 25 miles to my due west. But, scraped the coast near Terrebonne Parish before coming ashore. We got sustained winds around 100 mph with higher gusts. It was scary and the walls of the house shook. Sounded so loud like a freight train coming on through the house. We went 8 days without power and lost our fishing camp due to Andrew. A fishing camp that has been in our family since the day I was born. Only 2 walls were still standing due to the surge. Only a few camps in the Bayou Dularge area were left standing.

Allison- remember having to go to work in it. It kept raining and raining. They would not even let anybody go home early. By the time I got off it was around 6 p.m. and my mom came get me. ( I did not have my car; yet.) And we barely got home because the water from the bayou was coming in over the highway. The bridge by the mall was almost completly washed over. The ride home was scary. When I got home, the skies really let loose. It poured and poured for hours. It started to flood. Our house always stays high and dry. But, water was starting to come in the neighbors home. My brother had to go help sandbag. We stayed up all night.

Isidore- we are glad this one stayed at a tropical storm. The eyewall passed right over us. I was sleeping when he came ashore. It was not bad at all. Just some heavy rain and some gusty winds. Our power got knocked out for a few hours.

Lili-we thought this one was really gone to be the big one for Terrebonne Parish. It was a cat 4 and it took a big jog to the right. Bob Breck was screaming at us over the TV, if you live in Terrebonne Parish, get out now! It was way too late to leave. He scared a lot of people. Lili made landfall where it was originally projected. New Iberia. So, we were spared the worse, plus she weakened to a 1. I stayed up almost all night expecting to get worse. Our power only blinked and went out for 30 seconds. It never got that bad. Just some gusts up to tropical storm force. But, southern Terrebonne Parish got flooded up to 8 ft due to a levee break.

Bill- He happened only 5 days after my birthday. Center passed right over us. Just got a lot of rain. Nothing much more. Just looked like a normal rainy day. Montegut got severly flooded once again due to the levee breaking.

Cindy- drove in her because I had to work. Nothing that much here. Just some rain and gusty winds. Most of the action was just to my east in Lafourche Parish. My dad worked offshore during Cindy. Near Venice where the mouth of the MS river is. He got 90 mph gusts and had to hold on to a pipe for dear life. Almost got tossed overboard.

Katrina- we evacuated for her. First and only time. 80 mph wind gusts. Tons of trees down. Some had roof damage. Minor structral damage due to falling trees. 3 days without power.

Rita- it got somewhat bad at times. Heavy rain and winds gusting near hurricane force. A few gusts up to 80 mph was recorded in my town. Power knocked out for a few hours. Southern Terrebonne Parish got severly flooded again due to levee breaks.

I am sure there are a few along the way that I am missing, but just can't remember.

1. Remants of Hurricane David 1979, Extratropical Low TS Force; some strong winds and heay rain. Power outage, minor house damage to some homes, and some trees down.

2. Remants of Hurricane Gloria 1985, Etratropical TS Force; less than David, just a rainy and gusty day.

3. TS Alberto 1988; just a rainy day.

4. TS Chris, TD force; just another rainy day.

5. Remants of Hurricane Hugo 1988, Extratropical TS Force; some strong winds and heay rain. Power outage, and some trees down.

6. Hurricane Bob 1991, TS Force; some strong winds and heavy rain. Power Outage, minor building damage, tress down, and minor to moderate flooding on nearby Saint John River.

* + 7. Hurricane Andrew 1992, Cat. 5: I was visiting family in Dade, what can I say extreme

8. Hurricane Opal 1995, weak Extratropical Low; just a rainy day.

9. Hurricane Bertha 1996, as a TS; some strong winds and heavy rain. Some trees down.

10. Remants of Hurricane Fran 1996, as a TD force Extratropical Low; just a rainy day.

11. Hurricane Hortense 1996, as a Cat. 1; some heavy rain and gusty winds, to far to the SE for any real impacts.

12. TS Josephoine 1996, as a TS force Extratropical Low; just a rainy and gusty day.

13. Hurricane Floyd 1999; as a TS force Extratropical Low; some heavy rain and high winds. Power Outage, some trees down, and minor to moderate flooding on Saint John.

+ 14. Hybridstorm of 2001 which was created from the merging of Hurricane Michelle, TS Noel and a Nor' Easter; Some heavy rain, and very high winds. Sustained speeds of 50 mph with gusts up to 85 mph. Second worst wind storm I have ever been in, only Andrew down south was worse

15. Hybridstorm 0f 2002 which was created from a merging of Hurricane Gustav and a Nor'Easter; just a rainy and gusty day, low center to far East for any real impacts here.

16. Remants of Hurricane Frances 2004, TD force Extratropical Low; just a rainy day.

17. Hybridstorm 0f 2004, formed from a merging of Subtropical storm Nicole and a Nor'Easter; a rainy day with high winds. Peak wind gusts up to 50 mph. Some trees down, but heavier wind damage to the south of my area.

+ One of the two worse in terms of wind.

* Not in my area

Like I indicated at the top of that post - "comparatively speaking"... :D

Truth be known, Camille's direct impact on me and my family "might" have lasted all of six weeks, with little or no long term impact. Katrina, on the other hand, has thus far dealt me and my family six MONTHS of extremes in terms of personal, emotional, psychological, financial (!!), and employment issues. And unfortunately, there is very little light at the end of the tunnel - although it is getting brighter.

...and my family is just one among at least hundreds of thousands of others - if not millions...

Of the "Major" storms I've had brushes with, I have had the following:

Audrey: Cat 4 at landfall--I was visiting with family, where we were we may have received High 1 Low 2 winds... no serious damage, only fueled my youthful thrill with these things, I was about 8 at the time.

Hilda: Cat 3 at landfall, we "may" have received one, more than likely high-end TS from this one.

Betsy: just dropped from 4 to Cat 3 at landfall--enormous storm. Rode this one out in the 9th ward, I'm convinced we got high cat 2, to low cat 3 from this puppy. Totally flooded out, first "Billion dollar" storm.

Camille: Cat 5 but small, think we may have had High Cat 1 in St. Bernard, lower 9th from this one. Started to evacuate (after Betsy who wouldn't) but had to turn back and pray for the best---fortunately for us, unfortunately for Miss, we did get the weaker side.

Carmen: Cat 3, 1974, Pretty much all we got from this was a lot of rain and possiby high-end TS winds in our area.

Andrew: Cat 5 inf Fla. and Cat 3 in La. I was near Morgan City, and would think we got Cat 2 in that area, this storm had an amazing penchant for staying well defined till it moved inland on Louisiana.

Katrina: Cat 5 in gulf--arguable 4 or 3 on landfall, evacuated at last minute to help a friend but others stayed to ride it out... am convinced High 2 to low 3 in our area After this monster I want no part of another like it. Massive flooding, including in my home, lost a family memeber as well.

So much for the "Major storms" The Minor storms I felt impacts from are too numerous to list here; but I did experience winds/rains, and localized flooding from Isidore, Florence, Georges, Ethel, Florience, Cindy, Bob, Frenderick, Rita and several others I can't recall at this writing. All said, yes, I didn't get the worst "brunt" of these storms, but I caught a goodly share of many of them.

And I too shudder tho think what a true solid 4-5 would do to this area with a direct hit at worst case scenario--almost all of SE Louisiana would be a war-zone disaster, if not completely under water.

Not much here in New Jersey.

1) Bertha- Moderate damage around my area, gusty winds and rainfall
2) Edouard- Just waves
3) Bonnie- See Bertha
4) Floyd- See Bertha
5) Isabel- This one we were pretty afraid of. 5 days out, some forecasts were further north than North Carolina, including one that hit Cape May. Preparation was insane, though upon coming through we only got some gusty winds.
