With all the poll-happiness over predicting what will happen many months, if not many years, from now...

I'm not so sure senorpepr. In fact my research has produced this very plausible model detailing why Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana are in more risk than you think:
Nobody in the Great Plains was expecting it. "Hurricanes?" they said, "hurricanes don't come here!" But when Hurricane Alberto made landfall in Galveston, Texas on March 9, 2006, the hurricane was slow to weaken. I mean it wasn't even a fast moving storm if you were thinking that that would maybe spare hurricane victims of any catastrophic freshwater flooding as the storm moved inland. It moved at 3mph all the way inland, but it barely weakened at all because it was so powerful that it moved the ocean inland with it and fed off of the warm land too because there was a record heat wave in the area at the time.
So anyway Hurricane Alberto reached southern Kansas at Category 4 strength, and a 900-mile-wide Cat3 affected a huge swath of the Great Plains. However senorpepr I do think you are right on one thing and that is that Montana will not be hit by a major hurricane this season. Yet another year gone without a single major hit on Montana...you have to wonder how much longer their luck will hold up. Statistically it has to happen within 5 years.
Also, that is just the first storm! There will be 89 named storms and I said it first.
