stayed in the 35-36 range down here overnight. At 37 right now....we get through today and winter will be over IMO....

well this whole week will be cloudy with a chance of rain and highs below 70F..and some days will be below 60F...but yes, beyond this week and next weekend..spring may finally arrive! The week of the 27th looks like it may feature a huge ridge in the plains and highs into the 80s or even 90s look like a possibility! At this point I could sure go for some warm weather.

Bring it on... I had my pool put in last Oct without a heater.....been looking at it ever since....

They even have ice predicted the morning of the 29th? Accuweather's long-range forecasts are usually wrong though, so I will pay little attention to them for now. I will just continue to HOPE that spring will arrive the week of the 27th.

BTW: Here is a look at the warmth in the plains that the GFS is predicting.

It's only 33° here now, and as far as I saw, I never got anything other than that *snow* ahem...drizzle/mist I saw last night. I was however, below freezing for quite a few hours. Not sure how many as I don't know what time I went above it, but over several hours, starting at 3something when I checked, I was. There are readings in Beaumont right now of 31° to 33° -- brrrr!
(including 31° at KFDM right now)

These lows were lower than NWS and even KFDM predicted. They both thought we would stay above freezing with KFDM predicting 33°. The low was 29°.

No ice event at my house....don't know about surrounding areas.



Those of you in Austin, San Antonio, and wherever else there is ice, stay safe....stay off the roads.

Jasper, TX is currently reporting sleet and Lufkin is reporting Freezing mist. If anyone has travel plans to these areas today...use caution on the roads! As for Austin and San Antonio...it looks as though temps. have finally come above freezing in the metro areas..but out in the hills it is probably still near freezing. Also..if heading to Dallas; they are still reporting 29F with freezing mist as of 1pm.

Hooks = 37F (up 2F..but with a 32F dewpoint; we could drop again if we see more rain)
IAH = 36F

Special Mention:

Huntsville = 32F with SLEET
College Station = 34F and overcast
Beaumont = 39F and overcast

**These temps. are about what are highs should be today. If we see more mist/rain then areas may actually see temps. fall during periods of the afternoon. If more rain were to occur at Tomball..then a 32F dewpoint and a 37F air temp. could lead to the temp. dropping to near 34.5F or colder. It is a wintry day for sure! Also...I would still not rule out a few sleet pellets around the area as some sites have been reporting sleet today.**

It's actually not 39° anywhere in Beaumont, according to KFDM Instaweather which reports temps all over Beaumont. That reading is in Port Arthur. I have no idea why Beaumont's official reporting station is in Port Arthur, but it is. Port Arthur is south of Beaumont.

Anyway, current readings in Beaumont vary from 32° to 36° and that's based on 10 reporting stations throughout Beaumont. My house is between 33° and 35° readings so I assume I'm somewhere around there.

I need my weather station installed.

Looking at computer models, it appears that aroung the 26-28th of Feb. we could see some pretty cold air in some parts of the south. The ensembles show the rain/snow line all the way to Florida.

Meanwhile, the GFS shows a POSSIBLE snowstorm around March 3-4th.


Anybody have any thoughts on this?

well the map above is looking out to Mar. 3rd...but yes it does look like it could get chilly. A few days before this, though, a large ridge is expected to build in the plains and it could get warm out this way in TX (80s and 90s?). We will have to see what happens though..

thanks. It is weird that they use reports from well south of Beaumont as the official temp. in Beaumont...they really need to change that. As for your *actual* temps...looks chilly for sure. I see that there are some reports of sleet just north of your area...report if you get any.

I have been watching Lufkin for the last few hours and it looks like they are getting a good winter pounding up there. They have been reporting sleet and frz. rain for a good portion of the day. Here is their latest report:

ewg, just checked the fort worth nws and every single site in DFW is reporting freezing dizzle or freezing mist withg temps in the 20s the whole time and theres still frozen precip going on overall DFW has seen probably a good 10-15 hours of freezing rain freezing mist or sleet, northern suberbs have gotten gyped but i live in the cities of dallas,fort worth and the ice is bad.. u cant even get into your car because theirs a layer of ice all over it the doorhandle is iced over and so are the windshields.. east texas has gotten it bad too around lufkin and texarkana.. i imagine the northern suberbs of houston might have a shot at some sleet or frozen precip tonight maybe?

I don't know...I wish we could get some sleet..I don't really want freezing rain as much...but I doubt we will see anything tonight (probably will be too warm). But yes, it is very bad up in the Dallas area and across east TX. Seems like this storm everyone was calling a "bust" yesterday turned out to have quite a punch. May be the NWS in Dallas should have kept the Winter storm warning that they cancelled...seems like it may have been bad enough up your way (if cars are iced over to the point where you can't get in them) .

Just want to let everybody know that it looks like today will be one for the record books. Bush airports lowest EVER high for this date was 46F in 1958..so far the high at Bush has only been 38F (around midnight this morning) and they are only at 36F now. Looks like today will set a new low max temp. record at the airport. Below are a few other places in the area to see how close they will come to breaking or tying old records:

IAH (Bush)
Coldest high for today = 46F (1958)
High so far today = 38F
**we may DEMOLISH that old record!**

COLLEGE STATION
Coldest high for today = 35F (1921)
High so far today = 35F
**could be a tie!**

GALVESTON
Coldest high for today = 39F (1936)
High so far today = 42F
**The record from 1936 will stand in Galveston.**

Also...a few interesting facts:

-The latest IAH has EVER seen a high in the 30s was on March 5th, 1989 when the high was just 38F!

-The latest Galveston has EVER seen a high in the 30s was on March 19th, 1921 when the high was just 37F!

-The latest College station has EVER seen a high in the 30s was on March 18th, 1923 when the high was just 35F!

like plainsman said...the northern suburbs got gyped...I hate this...i see some freezing mist, mixed with a few very small snow flakes and nothing else.. there was more stuff yesterday morning than there is now...I played in a tennis tournament yesterday morning and within minutes of freezing precip starting while i was out there, the nets hat frozen over and the ground was slick...now theres nothing!!!
