I LOVED that show, too, Mary. In fact, I keep hoping some station like A&E or TNT or TBS will buy the rights to re-run the series or that it will become available on DVD. :)

Diane! Another thing we have in common. A guy I was dating got me into St. E. He had gone to Harvard and b/c of that Boston connection, he said I had to watch. I just thought it would be another Marcus Welby, MD type show. Ha! It was so much better. I started watching in 1984.

My favorite character? Jack, of course. Westphal next. I always go for the good guys, although I loved Howie Mandel as Fiscus.

When I point out that Denzel Washington got his big break from St. E., people are surprised - DW was on ~that~ show? They emphasize that "that" word too......either you got it or you didn't I guess.

Liked Ehrlich too....he was always kissing up to Dr. Craig.....too funny.

About 4 years ago a cable channel was airing reruns. So I was able to see almost all of the seasons that way.

One thing I've noticed, is St. Elsewhere is in that group of TV shows that angered fans so much with a startling storyline. Dallas did it with Bobby showing up in the shower, and if you didn't watch, he really wasn't dead. They wiped out an entire season that way. With St. E., fans can't quite forgive the ending. I'm not sure where I stand on this one. I guess I've just blotted it from my mind - Tommy and the snowglobe didn't happen!

Finally, my favorite thing about St. Elsewhere? The theme song!

OK, Mary, now that theme song's instantly become an "earworm" in my head! :P

Actually, I personally thought that ending was (unexpectedly) thoughtful. The revelation that those characters were not the people I had come to know and love (or hate) over the show's run was startling but not unbelievable. Tommy and the snowglobe really seemed plausible, considering the inner qualities which had been developed in the characters throughout the storylines. It certainly wasn't a cop-out like Dallas!

I was a bit disappointed. We all knew they weren't going to kill Meredith, and everything else was too predictable. The bomb plot was over the top and unbelievable. I figured out why I can't get into this show...

Oh but I will watch next week for the simple fact that the woman has spontaneous "you-know-what's", oh that's going to be fun.

CanjunMama, I'm with you. I could see a spark between Meredith and the bomb guy. I was kinda upset when he got blown up. I love this show. Do you love George more than anything??? He's adorable.

:roflmao:

Well you do have a point there. :P

For the first time ever Grey's had more viewers than DH. Will be interesting to see how many stick around.

NBC peaked at 9 p.m. with a 14.7/21, beating ABC's "Desperate Housewives," 14.5/20 (although ABC had the lead among younger viewers). CBS aired the movie "The Sum of All Fears." FOX went with reruns of "Family Guy," 4.0/6, and "American Dad," 3.5/5, and The WB was fifth with a "Charmed" repeat.

At 10 p.m., "Grey's Anatomy" conlcuded its post-Super Bowl cliffhanger with a 15.4/24, topping an original "Housewives" for the first time ever. The Olympics scored a 12.4/19 for the hour, while CBS' movie came in at 4.7/7.

I wonder if they'll repeat this one like they did the one last week. I'm trying to avoid reading comments in here, but I may end up just reading them to see what happened. I'm not used to remembering to watch anything on Sunday night. I didn't even think about it after church.

Ditto Frack, had to go to a Wake and totally missed it!!! I am still so upset that I didn't see the second half. Hopefully they will reair that episode as they did the first one.

I tried to watch which it was started, but could not ever get into it, but hopefully I can do better now, there is not much else on opposite it.

Last night was pretty good... I think I am going to stick around for awhile... and for the 2nd week in a row, Grey's beat DH. Next week is the DWTS finale so DH is pre-empted

'Anatomy' of Sunday Nights Changing

Monday, February 20, 2006
12:31 PM PT

If it had happened only once, it could have been considered a fluke. But then Sunday night, it happened again. Now, we may almost have a trend on our hands.

For the second straight week, ABC's young-doctors-in-love drama "Grey's Anatomy" beat its Sunday-night lead-in, the heretofore indomitable "Desperate Housewives," in the ratings on Sunday (Feb. 19). The show's feat is all the more impressive for having taken place opposite heavier-than-usual competition from NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics.

"Grey's Anatomy" gathered about 24.3 million viewers on Sunday, continuing a run of big audiences that began with its post-Super Bowl broadcast on Feb. 5. That episode brought in close to 38 million people, the most for the post-game program in five years.

The Super Bowl episode ended in a cliffhanger, and 25.4 million people tuned in Feb. 12 to see its resolution. That night was also the first time "Grey's Anatomy" had improved on an original "Desperate Housewives."

With the cliffhanger in the past, it wouldn't have been a shock if "Grey's" had dipped back closer to its pre-Super Bowl level, which was still pretty high -- the show averaged 17.9 million viewers per week through the end of January, ninth-best in all of primetime. But Sunday's episode maintained the momentum, beating "Housewives" again in both viewers and adults 18-49.

It's not as if the Emmy-winning "Housewives" has gone into the tank the past two weeks, either: The past two airings have drawn 23.4 million and 23.3 million viewers, slightly better than its season average.

Additionally, "Grey's" has sustained its big audience opposite Winter Olympics coverage that's also drawing around 20 million viewers. It's true that the Olympics aren't the ratings force this year that they've been in the past, but they're still a big step up from NBC's regular programming. Sunday, for example, NBC had 18.6 million viewers in the 10 p.m. hour; normal time-slot occupant "Crossing Jordan" is averaging 11.6 million for the season.

Izzie officially gone went off the deep end last night.

I wonder if Burke is going to die. :(

Don't forget TONIGHT is the 2-hour Season Finale... 9-11pm ET/PT. A repeat of last night will air at 8pm ET/PT and will be joined in progress after the President on the East Coast.
