Diagnosis: SDS (*now Deprivation Syndrome)

WARNING: This thread is not loaded with meteorlogically correct terms.

Nearly all of the US has been in a SDS pattern this winter.

Sufferers of SDS (*now Deprivation Syndrome) exhibit these symptoms:

*Red bleary eyes (from staying up late to see if a storm is forming somewhere--and somehow might make it to their house).

*Irritability - Don't even ask. If you do, I might bite your stinkin' head off. (oops.... see what I mean?)

*Inability to sleep when rain and cold weather stand even a small chance of doing the deed.

*Referring back to 1993 (and beyond) for any meaningful references to *now (Superstorm).

*Examining 30+ year old data where storms happened in February and March, after a warm January, to see if it bears any resemblence to *this* winter.

*Easily excited by the prospect of rain and cold together.

And...I'm sure there are more symptoms that have yet to manifest...

So, I ask you S2Kers....do YOU have SDS?

I definitely do. Every cold outbreak I see on the 384 hour GFS, I BELIEVE!

SDS is a difficult syndrome to manage. The only cure (albeit temporary until next winter) is the vernal equinox...and spring.

I used to have the Red Bleary Eye syndrome...as i would stay up all night to check latest SPC forecasts LOL. but I dont think I have sds, I am just REALLY into the weather.

And the *now Deprivation Syndrome gets worse for those of us in the southeast. Looking more and more like another snowless winter for us.

If Mother Nature isn't willing to dump some *now on us here...I'd just as soon be done with the cold and bring on spring.

There's lots of stuff I could be doing with my time--other than staying up late keeping close tabs on weather forecasts and (rather futiley) praying to see even a few snow flakes fall from the sky before winter is over.

Sorry...I'm in a grouchy mood tonight and just feeling completely negative. Some of it has to do with SDS....some has to do with other extraneous stuff going on in my life.

I'm sure the glass will look half-full to me another day/night...but not tonight. So...I shall not rain further on everyone else's *now storm.

Feeling the same way over here in SC. I really had high hopes for this storm coming up this weekend too. As it stands right now though this storm hit's everything from VA up to the Northeast with a big storm. Nothing but rain in Ga or the Carolina's outside of the mountains. I for one am really ready for springtime.

SDS for me is Supercell Deprivation Syndrome... was really bad but it has let up a little now.

OH i can definitley relate. I live in the midlands of SC and was up all night the other night watching for just the sight of a flurry and it never came but lo and behold up in blythewood and lancaster they see snow. I havent seen snow since my son was 1 and that was in 2001-2002 winter. He would love to see some as he doesnt remember that event. Now the storm this weekend is looking like just cold rain which I hate as much as I do and ice storm. But i suppose if we are meant to get some we will get blessed with some if not I hope we have a calm spring and summer LOL yea i know that is funny!

If you live in the South you have SDS!!!!!!
