A Winter Day in South Texas.

Front just came through here at little while ago...at 3pm is was saying to a coworker "I thought we had a front coming through". We both looked up at the blue sky and laughed. The wind is blowing now about 26mph with gusts in the 30's. We've gone from 75° at 3 down to just 63°.

It might of taken us by surprised because we have been concentrating on next week and the week after, ya think?

I was surprised just like everyone else, that's for sure. I guess this is a hint of things to come.

Here are a few of the top wind gusts seen in SE Texas today...not quite as extreme as the winds a few weeks ago, but windy none the less.

Houston (IAH) = 38mph
Houston (Hobby) = 39mph
Galveston = 44mph
Beaumont = 36mph
Conroe = 31mph
Victoria = 37mph

**More breezy weather is expected with our next front in the Sun - Mon time frame. This (Sun/Mon front) will also be the true start to our pattern change and will mean the end of the 70s for weeks**

Even with the pattern change I doubt we will go for weeks without seeing 70's.

during early December we went for a 7 day period without hitting 70 and then 2 days later an 8 day period. I think that this pattern change will be as cold or colder than that. Sure we may hit 70-71 one or two days during the overall cooler weather, but it will probably reverse back to below 70 within a day or two.

well if you took out those two days of 70s in December that ruined the stretch then it would have been 17 straight days. If this cooler pattern is colder than the one in December, then it is possible that a 14+ day stretch of below 70 could occur.

Dude - is it 7 or 14? A week or weeks? I'm not trying to be difficult...but you originally said weeks of no 70's. Now you're saying 7-14 days. So which is it? I don't think a week or so without 70's is at all out of the question. I don't think it will last for 14 days though.

Besides, when you're talking about a stretch that won't even start for another week - nothing is definite.

Besides, when you're talking about a stretch that won't even start for another week - nothing is definite.

It may start as early as this upcoming Monday...but there is a chance for a 70 degree reading on Thurs/Fri of next week...and if that happens, then it will begin next Sat. Either way I see at least a 7-14 day stretch of below 70 during this month. If it doesn't happen, then hey your right, but I have a feeling that it will...and looking at the ensembles and models...they just reinforce my prediction.

The Shreveport, LA and Dallas, TX AFD's mention that this arctic blast next weekend will be as cold or colder than what we got in early December! If that is true then Houston may be in for another sub-40 degree day (for a high) within a week.

latest NWS forecast is calling for no 70s during the next 7 days...Monday - Sunday. And beyond those days it looks to stay cold for the following week. It may just be able to happen...

yeah i realized they said since later that day...but shreveport did say the coldest so far of the winter. This was yesterday though, so the scenario continues to change.

No doubt it looks colder. But I don't want to see those December temps again. 10 degrees at my house is just too cold. Unless there's snow, then it's okay. Otherwise, it's just a drain on the utility bills.
